I just finished OT1 and just prepping for the super boss took me like 6 hours. It was fun. I hope the story is better in 2 and 0 cause honestly the stories in 1 were so unbelievably boring that by the half way point I was just skipping every cutscene cause not a single one of the characters had anything interesting going on.

Everything pretty much. There's more content, there's a speed up function, the characters actually feel like they interact more as a group instead of just being 8 different stories you play one after another. It's like they took the criticisms from 1 and worked them into 2. Hopefully 0 will improve even more. However I will say it's not like 1 is bad and 2 is good, they're both good games.

20 hours of my 130 hour OT2 playthrough was me trying to figure out how to beat the secret super boss. It's such a huge jump in difficulty from the final boss it's insane. If the rest of the game is 7/10 difficulty, this boss is 30/10. I purposely didn't look anything up and tried my own strategies, then I tried grinding, then I tried looking up strategies and working them into my own party setup. In the end I looked up a guide and followed their build but even then because my turn order was different and I didn't have EXACTLY the same stats the fight went a bit sideways and I had to improvise. I've never fought a harder turn based RPG boss in my life.

Then they added in an Extra Battles mode that has even harder fights. Luckily they don't count towards full achievement completion because I am fucking spent

I wish you could grind those stat boost items cause some characters just don't have the stats to build them certain ways with just equipment. Like I saw a guide that had Therion as Sorcerer but I couldn't replicate it cause I didn't have any magic boosting items on him so I just reverted to using Tressa who I had been using all game. Is 2 harder than 1 cause the super boss in 1 was already nut busting. Especially that 1st phase. 2nd phase got nuked by Warmaster, the best job in the game.

I haven't played 1, I jumped straight into 2. From what I hear, 1's superboss is easier. One piece of advice I'd give you is if you plan on attempting OT2's secret superboss then don't use any stat boosting items during your main story playthrough. You don't need to, you'll have plenty of broken strategies and characters to carry you through the main game. You can technically grind stat boost items in OT2 but because they're a rare drop from a rare enemy I haven't seen anyone recommend it. Save any other consumables that look really powerful and rare too. Once you're ready to attempt the superboss, THEN take a look at what stats need pumping up depending on the strategy you're going with.

Usually you pick what abilities you want on your character but this time around if you master your class, the 4 abilities you learn from unlocking all the attack skills are the only abilities you will have in use, which is the same in COTC however this is is riddled with crap like +50 Def and +50 atk like the MCs warrior class. And you additionally and only have 2 slots for learned abilities and 3 slots for learned attacks, pic related. I'm gonna miss subclasses so bad. In COTC at least the characters had some crazy synergistic attacks and abilities

At the very least 1 of the 2 open slots will be hard locked to surpassing power for that damage limit break, the other is gonna be a hard choice for minmaxing. Partitio, Osvald, and Teemu were my favorites. Throne is as basic as Hikari, though, and she's kinda a downgrade from Primrose (the most comparable archetype) just because she doesn't have anything that interests her. Everyone else had some kind of moralistic objection to their antagonists, but she somehow couldn't think of anything to say to Claude. Nah, that is super wrong because the localizers omitted the character's ages, which were listed in the Japanese version, and changed the line in the Mercantile Manuscript about adult Beastlings being 130cm. The Japanese side already knew Ochette was 20 and that all her people were small, like pre-release they tweeted that out, and I remember seeing some Japanese twitter user malding that she's 20. Because the English side of the fandom can fathom that characters with silly personalities aren't children (and Ochette first chapter shows she an actual adult (brings food for community, trained to be a leader and well respected within her village), there's no illustration of other adult Beastlings anywhere outside that one page in the artbook so no visualization of them all being short, the ommited details and Ochette herself is drawn wildly different depending on the artist, even your own picture shows her being drawn totally different with the befriend art having weird proportions like a gigantic head. So, when the game came out the English side of the fandom saw her as being a child which has died down since there's proper documentation of those lore details now.
Just like that other anon said, I think they wanted to design cute animal people rather than actually make her a child. You can even see in all her beta designs that she was always meant to be short and if you take into account what the game hints at Ochette is even older than 20 in human years, she's like in her 30s since Beastlings in their 30s share the same sprite as the elderly carpenter in her village.

Yes to both. Cyrus as a cotc unit for beginner is huge, so much so that he can still be useful even at end game. Because he covers a lot of weaknesses. Dude was a big clutch in the early days of the game and even with all the powercreeps today, he's still a sold unit to have.

The first few chapters of everyone's stories is kind of whatever, but once you start to reach the endgame the whole thing really comes together. My file playtime went up by 7 hours prepping and re-prepping different party compositions for that side story(I went through 3 different party compositions), and countless more hours were spent on boss attempts(probably idk 20 attempts?). The overall game hadn't been too challenging, but then the jump was so massive that it got me extremely pumped. I also didn't want to look up strategies, but I ended up looking up a master list of stuff (every Learned Skill/Beast/Follower) for more optimization. In the end, Batman's prep time prevailed, but by god, what an exhausting journey.

Yeah, I think I place a large blame on the game itself being incredibly vague about its systems for that. The equip effect weapons don't tell you how much they buff by, same with a few of the amulets and equipable skills. It's a shame, because you just end up being forced to look it up if you want/need to optimize.

Hikari if you want the game on easy mode, Oswald for qol since he reveals enemies weaknesses. Throne being a higher lvl will make stealing easier. Though overall, it really doesnt matter since the game is piss easy anyway. Choose whoever you like most, id recommend throne and oswald for dark stories, castti and temenos for mystery, agnea and partitio for fun upbeat stories, ochette and hikari for good, traditional stories

No. Everybody is some derivative of the 8 base jobs. Yes, even "DQ collab Monk Partitio" uses the Thief Job. Some of them have special perks though; Pardis III is a Scholar with melee stats and all of his physical attacks are Sword despite only equipping tomes and staves, among other character.
