The proper made games for the system are in fact pretty cool, the FMV SoA slop not so much.

There were some good games, but Sega was moronic for betting hard on FMV by opening a studio specifically for FMV games, only for it to close two years later.

exactly same.
i'm also tired of people trying to say it interfered with the Saturn somehow. nigga, the Sega CD came out 3 years before the Saturn. the 32X was the fuckup.

>but Sega was moronic for betting hard on FMV
it was '91. 3D graphics looked like this, and required a system that cost over a grand to play it.

It had some decent games unlike the 32X. IMO it enhanced the Genesis library. I agree with the other anon saying the 32X was a massive fuck up that shouldn’t have existed. Sega should have just kept supporting the Genesis and CD and then put all their eggs on the Saturn once it launched

It wasn't that good. The system just was not powerful enough to do anything cool. The 3DO was a stronger system and should have done better.

Typical SoA and SoJ infighting. SOA would have been pushing the Genesis until 1999 if it was up to them, and SoJ could not be convinced that a platform held up by arcade ports that was best at 2D was what people wanted to buy in 1995. No one listened to anyone.

ya 3DO was "stronger" in that you could run 3D games at 10 FPS.

The Saturn NEEDED a good, original 3D game. SoJ being so butthurt over Xtreme was dumb, it NEEDED a Sonic game no matter how unpopular the franchise was in Japan.

The 3DO version of any FMV game is the best console version, assuming there's no PC release (which would have been hard to actually play at the time of release because it required a computer that cost thousands)

Yuji Naka correctly assumed a Sonic game made with his engine would outsell his own game made with his engine and got mad.
SoJ let Naka run wild because he knew a few programming tricks in the '80s and early '90s. by '95, those tricks were irrelevant and he was a hack.

sega cd was amazing but it's one of those systems where you had to just be there as a kid when it was new.

All the poser fags who didn't experience it until 2000+ can never fully understand or truly experience how it felt.

I'm just happy my family wasn't full of poorfags like most gamers today and I had every single system growing up.

Everything after Sega Genesis was basically Sega of Japan being butthurt that Tom Kalinske managed what they could only dream of - butthurt at their own. There was barely any dialogue, basically a "fakku yu" directly from some Japanese directors.

Sadly yes, you got me - I actually know of its great games.
Still a huge mistake. Wished Sega Saturn had a proper release, instead, and a good support on its games - but that is just a wet dream: Americans would never like most of those Japan only games back in the days.

P.S. Thinking by now, even a "shit rushed idea" back then was more interesting than what we have nowadays.

It wouldn't have been a Bubsy 3D level disaster but releasing Sonic X-Treme would've been a mistake. SoA made no good games other than Comix Zone so they would've never been able to live up to expectations. The real trvke is that American retailers and their retarded demands washed away much of the profits gained by the Genesis, the 32X should've never been put out and the Model 1-3 boards, which were all extremely expensive, came out within the span of four years. SEGA, or at least SoJ, always operated around making unforgettable experiences, not appeasing shareholders. SoA was more profit oriented but had the wrong ideas about how to actually make money. SEGA under CSK was always destined to fail and no shitty 3D Sonic game for the Saturn would've changed that. SEGA is only profitable now because they've turned into a Sonic/Yakuza slop factory and publisher for Football Manager and Total War.

Come on, dude. I am the other anon. I just complained of Sega CD strategically. Still love its games.
Now, back on Sega of America topic... The effort they made producing games and bringing up them to Western world was amazing IMHO. Even Japanese games had a huge help from this side of the world, such as Sonic 2.
That anon either doesn't know or doesn't remember how were things back then.

>I just complained of Sega CD strategically.
SEGA was obsessed with being first. they wanted to be hip. and they were. early CD adopters, modem with the Dreamcast.
but being first doesn't matter when your competition is putting out multiple groundbreaking titles that change gaming forever.

on the subject of SoA, absolutely. their marketing blitz in '93 is still the stuff of legend.

the only Japan Only game this shitty console i am interested in seeing it translated is Shin Megami Tensei (surprise! it's a remake!!!)

so yeah i guess the Sega CuckolD is better than the X32 since the latter's library has NOTHING worth mentioning
