>adds almost nothing of value to the series except for arcane, time-wasting RNG bullshit that people skip over anyway by cheating and hacking, or just optimizing in a simulator anyway
>what little good it did bring is so minuscule that it hardly matters anyway
>GameFreak then spends the next 2 decades backpedaling and gradually undoing or speeding up all the time-wasting bullshit mechanics they implemented in RSE anyway
The peak of pokemon lies somewhere between Gen 2 and Gen 3, but it's almost offensive how terrible these games are by design with "fake depth" instead of allowing players to engage with its systems at their height.

what i mean is that they produced games like they produce any industrial product they dont want to create a refined videogame with deep mechanics but just spam designs for toys and shit to make trillions for the nintendy mafia

Emerald is the last time you could have any real hope for pokemon going forward.

Gen 4 showed their constant desire to return back to the well and run back content and wish to milk the nostalgia of the first generations

The time wasting RNG is only time wasting RNG if you're an autist that insists you have to have every possible advantage. This is literally only a problem if you let it be a problem.

"Oh no my little fucking dog has 10% less in a stat" who gives a shit in a story playthrough

recently played gen 1 to 5 in pokemmo because nostalgia, played only gen 1 when i was a kid, the storyline in 1 was SHIT, lots of obscure things like you cant advance because you need to pick up a glass of water in town 1 to give it to a fatass in a lost house in toun 5 for him to unlock a door in town 3 that let you reach a basement in toun 9 to reach a gym and how the fuck would a 10 yo kid was supposed to reach to that conclusion??? it was all designed to sell guides and collectables the jewest cash machine of early 00s, i have profound hatred against that franchise but also may be a good leeson about jewtricks to kids

No, it's a fundamental problem that makes it impossible to have high-level play within the games themselves without cheating or hacking. The whole point is to have pieces of relatively equal power and see whose pieces and whose strategy comes out on top. Randomized stats, natures, and other garbage does fuck all to add to this and instead serves mostly to dilute it.
Imagine starting up a game of chess where your pieces have random attributes in addition to their fundamental properties. How the fuck would this be good or fun for anyone?

>Natures give stat customization
>Abiltities add more depth to the series than any other singular gimmick
>It takes the idea of berries from gen 2 and expands on it into a real system worth using
>All of its immersive gimmicks like secret base and weather are among the most beloved to this day
Everything in Gen 3 was great aside from breeding, which has been shit since Gen 2 and been made slightly less shit with every successive generation.

You want to see a generation of Pokemon that added nothing of value then you look at Gen 5.
>Hidden abilities can only be gotten RNG from a 3rd party neopets knock off webite which is now shut down, making them inaccessible
>They have spent years making hidden abilities easier to obtain because making them so hard to get was pointless time wasting crap
>Inverse battles are pure ass, never brought back again
>Rotation battles were just trying to make switch out PvE into a more dynamic experience but failed miserably.
>Closest to a good thing was Pokestudios which was just gimmick boss fights
By far the most shallow and boring of gens they ever put out.

No, the whole point is to have fun fighting animals with your friends. The RNG is intentional to make the animals have variance instead of being static pieces.

Pokemon is not chess. So I don't need to imagine starting up a game of chess. It's not fucking made to be played like chess.

I never had issues with progressing in gen 1 as a kid, though I agree with OP about the amount of unexplained mechanics and needlessly convoluted secrets in gen 3 and the games in general. I don't think games should lay everything out at your feet, but if you're basically forced to use a guide to understand how something works it's not very fun either.

No, Black and White was the last time Pokemon was actively moving forward.
Making an entire game with entirely new Pokemon really did change everything.

At least stylistically they leaked in gen 5. I find a lot of the rest of it boring but they gave a lot of love into making Unova gorgeous. As much as I can't finish the game I adore seeing clips of it.

I think gen 4 started a lot of the decline in behavior, gen 5 tried to be a return to form, with it's line up being parallel to gen 1 in scope.

inverse battles were from gen 6 which was the worst pre-switch generation

Big issue with gen 5 for me is that while stylistically they were given a lot of freedom to reimagine a gen 1 experience with a large roster of new mons, and visually being the most dynamic for its base, the gameplay itself was stagnating, the story rehashed an large portion of the.formula that the last gens were setting up in a way that was just becoming Blaise and cookie cutter.

>Mechanics intentionally designed so you cannot realistically perfectly optimize it, encouraging you to just get something decent to good and work out a consistent strategy
>Players get red in the face and throw a tantrum that their pokemon is only averaging 25 IVs instead of a perfect 31 across the board
>Comp autists will cope and say this is somehow a huge difference
>The difference would be 6 points for stats that are already in the high 100s when at level 100, vs 3 points when at level 50
The only time this matters is for competitive, something Pokemon was never designed around if the existence of literal banned pokemon didn't make that clear.

I agree, I enjoyed Gen 1-3 but Gen 4 seemed like a boring retread of Gen 3’s ideas with the apocalyptic plot and all. I normally love cold/winter environments in games but Sinnoh just bored me. The Pokédex was really unmemorable and I disliked most of the new evos for old Pokémon. I dropped the franchise in the middle of my Platinum run.

I end up dropping RSE early every time I try to replay it, it's this perfect wave of blandness washing over me.

If it was a truly competitive format, couldnt they have just hacked the 'mons to have good stats?
Or maybe competitive pokemon was a contest to find the biggest LOSER lol
