I only played Star Force back in the day and decided to try Battle Network a few weeks ago looking for something to pacify my desire to play the Star Force collection. I've finished 1 (OSS) and am mostly through 2 and so far I don't think I'm loving it as much as I was expecting to, but I think that level of expectation comes from just seeing people over the years who were nostalgic for the series. So far the writing and characters are basically nonexistent compared to Star Force, but I like the visuals in combat much more since pixel art ages better, if at all, compared to lower end 3D, but I'm aware that the first 2 games are the worst pair in the series so I'm not committed to saying one series is better than the other yet. I don't love 2's style changes, but I do like that they are based on your play style.
