Okay, so what do we think of System Shock, is it good?
Anonymous No.724009289 [Report]
Original was THE OG imsim, the legend that defined the (sub-)genre.
Remake is a bit dumbed down for modern audiences, but still decent enough. If you wanna run it on switch you basically need the dumbed down version, old controls would be too complex.

>let's remake the game with modern graphics
>but also, like, make the textures pixelated for no reason
And there are people actually defending this.

It looks better than Legends Z-A

7/10. There's a lot to like. I do find it annoying though that they changed some of the audio dairy dialogs and it's less obvious what I needed to do in some early parts of the game.

I hated this decision as well. It doesn't work well.

That's a terribly low bar.

Didn't they also change the music to something completely forgettable ambient thing?

I hate cyberspace, it's cool to look at I guess, but its simply not fun.

for the original sure, but if it's the remake then skill issue

I don't think it's a bad remake, they really messed up by going with more ambience sounds instead of music though.

original music is trash

It's just a mindless slog shooting unskippable waves of enemies, no skill at all is expected. Cyberspace in the original is better lol, sounds like your skill issue on that game.

It was okay, not really my jam either, but at least some of the tracks were memorable.

WHOA NELLY IT'S NOT A GAME KEY CARDD

It's pretty good. I have no idea why you're planning on playing it on a console though.
>>724009321
It's made worse by the terrible UE particle effects. Also melee still feels very floaty.

We are fighting a culture war, with the game key card shit. Also, Switch 2 is shaping up to be the best console ever made with a library like this.

God imagine in 2025 you defend the original System Shock. You're such a zoomer you're oblivious to how everyone loves the sequel not the first one.

I liked it

Yeah I just replayed it again for spooky season and it's fun. My complaints are;
>Terrible AI pathfinding
>Not enough fast enemies like that melee cyborg.
>FUCK FLIER-BOTS
>Cyberspace gets old pretty quickly despite being breddy cool.

The only thing the Remake needed was the OG OST as an option and the cool first person view where you can move your cursor around your screen (SMOD had this and I've been addicted to that style of aiming ever since)
Anonymous No.724014534 [Report]
Play the original and just get used to the controls. The remake removes some major plot elements and unique aesthetic choices because the nu-devs were too lazy to do it.
>no biological infestation in Diego's lair and the Bridge
>no implied storyline about Shodan turning Citadel Station into a giant cyborg body with her main computer as the brain
also the new music is boring

Probably because PC is better in every way.
Anonymous No.724014739 [Report] >>724015337
the remake explicitly genders shodan as female when xir was genderless in the original. unforgivable.
Anonymous No.724015337 [Report]
>>724014739
Shodan referred to herself as female and so did the cyborgs under her control.
The people on Citadel usually referred to Shodan as "Shodan" or "it" until she went crazy, then they would accidentally personify the AI program by sometimes calling it "he" or "she."

The point really was that Shodan became a personality and had a conscious will of its own. Some crew didn't want to dignify Shodan by referring to the AI as if it were a person even when they would do so without thinking after being under siege for so long.
