The 3 games you can't talk about in /v/

I don’t like coliseum or XD as much as mainline because catching is an important aspect of the games but you’re hard restricted to the 30 or so mins the games allot to you, and training them to throw off their shadow tendency is just tedious and dull, especially with limited fights. And the whole game(s) are basically just linear paths from battle to battle.

It’s great they’re not done by GF of course, because you can see actual care and effort put into them, and the various towns STILL look better than anything Gamefreak has put out, but I feel like they miss the mark of what makes pokemon pokemon

attempting to catch shadow pokemon is the first and last time any pokemon game has been satisfying mechanically. you have to maneuver the 2-on-2 without killing the shadow and while wasting turns tossing balls. plus, knowing that you cannot expand your team without it makes it that much more engaging.
it's still way too easy for the most part but it's very far in the right direction.
