The silent cathedral goes overboard with block puzzles, but other than that I don't remember thinking anything was boring or tedious. Most of the rest of the challenge of the game is the exploration element. Combat barely comes into it either, you deal with all of the bosses and even most of the regular enemies when they pop up by killing them instantly with some kind of environmental mechanism or item, making them another part of the explore/puzzle side.
Defiance has "better" combat and ends up a worse game for it, because you spend half of your time mashing up mooks before being allowed to proceed, it just becomes a chore.

Eh... Fair enough. I liked SR2 still but there were definitely some stretches that got repetitive, I'm less eager to defend to that one.
