Put me in charge of Halo. We're going to get rid of running (just an old copycat of Call of Duty's former success,) and we're going to totally overhaul the atmosphere and take it back to Halo 1. We're going to build massive maps again for the campaign missions, it's going to big, empty, eerie, and liminal. Just like the old games were. We're going to keep the story simple, we're going to bring Sarge back, and we're going to have split screen multiplayer again. There were too many times I reacted "eughh, don't like that." If this is what they felt comfortable to show, imagine what they'll feel comfortable to launch. I'm not the biggest Halo fan, my favorites being Reach and ODST should be a clear indicator of that, but even I had tons of hours playing with friends on Halo 1 and 2 back in high school. I know Microsoft doesn't give a flying fuck and just views this as a cash cow, but they seriously need to shutter this studio and start a new one that is only composed of Halo fans. I was actually surprised by the announcement, and in a good way. Halo CE is too fucking old, its gameplay is too clunky, and unless you play it with the "old game" mentality, it's no longer enjoyable.
I always hated the Anniversary version because despite the new graphics, it was still the old XBOX game I played as a kid. At least this new version will offer a new way to explore the history of Halo CE, new gameplay and shit.

I don't know how long this has been in development, but it would be great if Microsoft pursued remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3. It doesn't matter if they don't have multiplayer. I haven't played online since probably 2010 when I played Halo Reach, so that's the thing I care the least about. I just want to replay those campaigns I loved as a kid but with modern graphics.

First person in-gameplay pelican rides are cool as fuck, and you get an overview effect of the beach before you drop down. It's cinematic AND you are in control of your character and you can point your gun. The flow is so fucking good. There's a reason that's a famous scene in video games. Now it's a movie with cuts and a grunt being shot because the covenant isn't allowed to be an intimidating entrenchment. That's literally how CE was designed. The level right before before Silent Cartographer has a part built around stealth and a part built around tight corridors, both where you don't have access to the pistol and instead have to use the sniper rifle. The stage after Silent Cartographer is a huge, open level where you get to use the tank. Even the Library was meant to be a test on how well you could survive being completely surrounded by the Flood in huge, open corridors. Every stage was uniquely and purposely built with different gameplay ideas in mind. Halo 2 was when it became more of an interactive movie.

Half seem to be the exact original lines from 2001 but then she suddenly keeps talking and it has to be Jen Taylor from 23 or 24 years later and having them right next to each other feels uncanny, but it's such a tiny thing. In Classic Halo, your maximum running speed is the same as your maximum sprinting speed in modern Halo games. No, seriously. You can test this with a Warthog in Forge. Drive forwards for ten seconds. Then, run the same distance on foot. In Halo 3, without sprint, you'll clear that distance in the same time (or less!) than it takes to sprint that distance in newer Halo games.
This is why Sprint is fucking stupid. It doesn't make you faster. Sprint makes you move at the same speed you used to move at in the older games, but you can't shoot during it.

Sprint is bad, and having it in the game, at all, fundamentally ruins the entire game design.

It makes the game slower. In the older games, you used to be as fast without sprint as you now are with it. Except you can't shoot while sprinting.
