the 3ds game is straight up a less polished version of dread
the lack of a moving counter and small ledge mounting are big deals for how they designed it
that said it's fine, and it's not the clunkiest gameplay in the series (fusion, but really NES)
and in both of those cases the experience is just different. the focus on movement was really nice in dread, but it lacked certain other things that the other games excel at, often map freedom and music as examples.
