MGRs story mode was more hype, but in terms of mechanics its the best and I dont think its particularly close.

The best title Phil-desu has ever published, it only took a decade, but he finally bringed a game

Newest Platinum game I played was MGR, so yes, this is their best game and it's not really a competition. Even Bayo 1 doesn't come close.

Finished hard mode. Great game. Vastly superior to NG3, and better than NG2. NGB is still my favorite. I'll get into MN after the trials and finding the rest of the accessories I missed on the first playthrough.

I haven't played another platinum game besides bayonetta, which I never finished because it was more style over substance bullshit just like NG4. They also somehow managed to fuck up worse than dmc4 when it comes to how they handled the main character. At least dante in DMC4 still felt like dante and was fun to play despite having shit levels. Seems to me like platinum only knows how to make the same perfect dodge / parry slop and is incapable of making an actual solid action game.

The game is unbalanced as shit, the best weapon is definitely the starting katana. Drill will only hit a single guy, staff is situational AOE. The shuriken/box of tricks is the most pussywipe weapon in the game and I only used them to hit flying enemies out of range. The camera is dogshit and should invert automatically everytime you are in a corner. I rate the game 8, 9 if it's is fixed. The only pozzed shit is how platinum loves those fake action skateboard and wall running sections.

Unironically the most complex NG, the bloodraven/gleam, weapon switching and new defensive options adds a completely new level of depth to the combat. NG was difficult but the combat was pretty simple, so I'm not surprised some vets are getting filitered

The thing is that there isn't a big audience for this style of game the way there is for Souls-likes. People into DMC are into it because of the story, the music, the vibes and how flashy it is to play. They're not gonna play a bunch of games simply because they're 3D hack and slash with a strong mechanics, similar to how you rarely see much exchange of players in fighting games outside of the people who are really dedicated.

The essence absorbtion is straight up broken to the point where it's clearly bugged, you can see this more with Ryu than Yakumo where you can stand right next to orbs and not absorb them, even if you walk into them. Then you jump and ready to do an on landing UT and Ryu will absorb the orb prematurely, resulting in you just holding down your strong attack and taking an often-times fatal hit.

I think it's my biggest complaint about the game despite sinking 50+ hours already and considering it a 9/10. They NEED to patch this. It really stands out because as many ITT have said, the level design outside of Valley of Wind is solid. Yakumo has a high skill ceiling, Ryu is appropriately overpowered. Lots of secrets. Great music. Mid story but cool set-pieces. The only major blemish I can think of is that fucking essence bug.

I disagree. I think the game does a nice job of immediately feeling good to play, but my standards for that have been warped by Astral Chain. That shit doesn't give you your "true" synched moveset until the 3rd level or so and feels like crap to play until then, so pretty much any game that doesn't make me wait that long is tolerable.
