The only reason there's any separation is because "run n gun" is simply worse and wouldn't be discussed at all if they were subject to comparison, but functionally these games are making the same cognitive demands. If we were to get really specific, well, they're platformers, action platformers, scrolling platformers, whatever you want to call them, they're platformers. Its just seems asinine to make a category like this where these Ghouls n Ghosts or Strider doesn't fit in, and those are obviously superior games anyways.
