Speaking as a FF fan, the stories suck and they've done nothing groundbreaking. The strong suite is the world, the characters and the adventure. I'd say prove me wrong but I'm too old for le opinions fight.

you had romancing sagas, phantasy stars, and lunar all come out before ff6 so i wouldn't say so
