Actually, bethesda was literally caught paying people to shill Doom (2016) here. Like red handed. And there's tons of other examples, but that was probably the most obvious one. And obviously /v/ is constantly assaulted from outside forces, who only want /v/ to be like them, not to actually be part of /v/.
