You may not like it, but Old School Runescape is the closest thing to a perfect videogame. It's the easiest game to just log in for 5 minutes, do something then log out. And it has enough content to last you a lifetime.

No it's not. Any Sub based MMO is literally the worst game to do that. A sub makes you feel like your on a timer and you're not getting your moneys worth if you play any other game.

I don't know if I'll be able to explain this correctly, but every time I've tried to get back into RS, I've found that I have trouble with goals and what I want to do and achieve in the game. I know it souds weird for a game which is all about levelling up different shit but I think the sheer amount of content made it feel like I wasn't actualy progressing. Not like it was back in the day getting my first rune item (it was a scimmy and i fucking loved it)
My latest account I blocked myself off by chunks, unlocking after having 'done' the content in that area. It gave me a feeling of progress outside of number-go-up, and meant that I wasn't obsessed with efficiency, having to use slower methods to level shit.
If I wanted to try OSRS again, I'd have to figure out another, even more restrictive method of playing, so I can lay out my progression ahead of time so I'm always grinding something, not feeling overwhelmed with content, and never losing interest. Would appreciate any ideas?
I might even give RS3 a go, I've never played it

The content isn't fun, it's made for stoners to brainlessly grind. Number go up is cool until you need to spend days to get anywhere. Love the quests, too bad 90% of the playerbase uses quest helper because god forbid you have content that's slightly engaging. DT2 was kino at least.

Not only was it not fun doing that, but I felt nothing getting that 99. I did purely so I can say "I got a 99 in Runescape" and it's never come up in conversation years later. MMOs are dogshit when you compare them to any actual games and people purely play them out of FOMO and being easily swayed by what other people are doing. Seriously give up MMO's cold turkey and start enjoying a wild variety of actual good games, you'll feel a lot better.

Currently autism maxing in single player Phantasy Star Online. The chill grind of MMOs works surprisingly well as a solo player. It's odd there aren't more offline games that just let you chill out and grind.

Unironically RS3 is a good game in many aspects but only if you play ironman. Dailyscape is shit, cosmetics are shit and it's even more overwhelming than OSRS in terms of content but I do think the actual gameplay is more fun and engaging. Try Archaeology, that skill mogs anything OS has

Idk, the game genuinely feels catered to stoners who eat up mindless tedious garbage over content that's genuinely fun for the sake of it. I don't think endgame gear in a long term progression mmo should be easy to get. This isn't WoW where gear gets replaced every like 4 months. I don't think that every noob needs to be able to do all the end game bosses. RS3 is primarily about the end game, its been tilted that way for years.

It's a good thing, Ironman is the way to go IMO and offers a mostly pure experience. But RS3 is also currently polling the removal of Treasure Hunter and most MTX elements as well as cutting down on the things people dislike such as dailyscape or a lot of the world clutter.

The only thing you may want to look up is how to set up the UI or just someone else's setup to import, as this is a common complaint by many new and old players.

Yeah but it's still really OP. I fucking hate Wildy events in particular but I'd remove all of the hourly and daily shit if I could. Wildy in particular gives not just broken XP but also resources, but yes you can just not worry about this stuff as a new player for now and do stuff at your own pace.

For me it's hit or miss. I really liked standing on top of Paterdomus and looking over Mort Myre for instance. A lot of older areas are also being graphically reworked and de-cluttered (though I really have an irrational dislike for the fucking plastic smooth rocks Blkwitch spams everywhere)
