i remember before puzzle pop threads got by for a solid year talking about the characters, lore and world. not like waifuposting wasn't a thing but i think we're just running on fumes due to even recent games or general happenings

puyo's one of those games that you can't just play once and then decide if you're good or not, you actually have to commit to playing the game multiple times to really get it down.
granted that's how you get good at any game but puzzle games in general need you to keep returning to get better, which already filters most people

it does still have its merits mainly due to the fact that sega for some fucking reason doesn't put crossplay into their games and for modding if you don't want to deal with champions' roster in particular being a quarter complete nobodies from the mobile game but yeah, i don't see many people using it anymore which kind of sucks.
i actually don't think some of quest's ideas for OC's are awful, i feel some like hed being part of a demon rock band fits as one of those random side character fights like hohow bird or the frankensteins in the fever games, the issue is both them almost always being overdesigned trash and if they ever got into a game and contributed to a story then sega is now juggling even more then their current juggling of worlds, and that's always been a sore spot since fucking 7. they genuinely have no place unless they make a game solely on quest characters but that'll never happen.
