A lot of the setting's lore is meant to have conflicting information. Most of it is written from a specific perspective so there is bias in nearly everything. I think the only thing you can say for sure is Caine killed his brother and God punished him for it, everything after has many different versions of the same story told from different perspectives and points in time.

Because there are a lot of other factions in the world of darkness that can curb-stomp the vampires if they ever wanted to. Not to mention breaking the masquerade means humanity as a whole will fight back against the vampires, and they outnumber them by a large enough margin that super powers won't be enough to make up the difference. Especially when you have exploitable weaknesses to things like sunlight.

You do the reveal yourself to the vatican activity which breaks the masquerade, then you have to survive 30 years of an empowered inquisition attacking the vampire world and once that's done, and after you've wiped out the last landed hunters, you can take a decision which permently ends the masquerade and gives you that title and a nice trait.

Torches deal aggravated damage due to fire and can cause rotshreck. Sticks are unplesant to be beaten with, can be put in vampire's heart freezing him, and even worse stick can be inserted into vamp's asshole. Imagine you are staked through heart and then molested with stick, they don't even need to bring torches or bladed weapons for decapitation, you would walk in the sun yourself.

VtMB handled vampires perfectly. The setting sucks and the game made it good.
In the ''real'' ''lore'' vampires control everything and they are basically gods, but they are still the weakest of all supernatural creatures. It's cringe and it's stupid.
In the game the vampires are basically LARPers. Their power is laughably low. They roleplay as these big tough predators but the height of power for them is to just have a big building. Santa Monica has like 10 vampires, that's their big empire and it's not just the limitations of the engine, it's flat out stated in the game.
In the game the vampires really can't even be that powerful. All the vampires are eternally cucked by the fact that vampires can't go out in the sun so these vampires will never be anyone of real importance.
The top vampires in the game are

Out of all the vampires the only real one is Jack. He just blows up a guy he doesn't like. The rest are just really pathetic and sad.
