Is getting into Slippi or Project+ a good idea if you barely played Smash before?
I would play Ultimate but I don't have a Switch.

only if you want to get constantly dunked on by turbo nerds

be sure to pay $5 a month for the "privilege" of playing against trannies who have also paid $5 a month
don't ask questions about why a mode for a free game and free launcher costs $5 a month, shut up and stop thinking about the fact that it wasn't supposed to be a permanent paid sub

You have to be really good. I spent hours after school practicing wavedashing and still have a 1/4th win ratio.
If you're even worse than these 2 guys

then you're cooked

exactly how poor can a person be to not be able to afford a switch

>150 to 350 for a Switch (used or new)
>40 bucks for Ultimate basegame
>50 bucks for DLC
>40 bucks for a year of Nintendo online
It's not cheap to just play one game.

unranked is much more dead than ranked and there's basically no chance you'll get a "fair" match when you can play against anyone from purely unranked bilgewater to a top 100

you already know the state of the industry, including how and why they carve those characters, and you already know the placements of those DLC characters in the current tier list
and if you didn't, well, that's two good reasons for you to just stop right there

To get into melee I feel like you really need a friend who also wants to get into melee as it helps keep you encouraged and gives you someone to practice and get stronger with other than just getting dunked online 24/7. I spent years back in 2015 with my best friend just practicing tech and having fun fighting each other and watching tournaments together. Never went to a local, never played against other humans, would only play CPUs and him. Nowadays I get my shit kicked in on slippi because my friend moved and I stopped played so much, but if I wanted to I could really get good since I still have all the tech skill lasered into my brain and my hands. I haven't played in months, but give me 5 minutes of warmup and I'm doing crazy movement shit. So really, all you need to do is get over the movement and techskill hurdle, then you need to get over the defensive mechanic hurdle (shield dropping, directional influence, asdi, smash di, etc) which only comes from playing with real humans.
If you really want to give it a go. Look up advanced tech videos. Go play against a CPU and just have fun moving around. Keep doing that every day until it becomes second nature to you. Then go online.
