Earbuds are great. I use a pair of cheap IEMs for just about everything. Sure you have to set up a separate microphone for gaming purposes but it's worth it.

I got one of these Stingers for free on warranty after they killed the last model I used, honestly they've been great and really aren't that expensive. It's been a couple years and the only issue they've gotten is sometimes audio cutting in or out when you're adjusting the volume wheel. Not a shill they're just cheap and comfortable and I have no reason to replace them.

Just go to a store to try out different ones before you find something suitable. Other than a build in mic there's really no reason to get a gaming headset over just normal ones. From personal experience Cloud 2 has felt good and has decent audio quality, don't really know how Cloud 3 has improved on it though.

I have the Maxwells and they're probably the best headset I've ever had. Especially for the price.

Lil bro is right about quality control but I was lucky and mine are fine. They've probably got their shit together by now. They are a little heavier than any other headset I've had before but it honestly doesn't feel any different to wearing other sets. Maybe it's because I'm a powerlifter but I don't get what people are complaining about when they say they're heavy.

If you do get them you need to download a program like soundkeeper which just sits in the background playing audio on mute forever because the auto-sleep on the maxwells is so aggressive that inbetween songs being played they will sleep and you'll miss the first 0.5 seconds of every bit of sound you play if you don't have something like soundkeeper running.

Out of the box I thought they sounded awful but fucking with the EQ I could get them just how I wanted them. The wireless is pretty nice, don't let people talk you down into wired. It's nice to be able to get up and walk around your room or even go downstairs and keep hearing audio. I once forgot I had them on and got partway into my deadlifts before feeling them slip off making me realise I still had them on my head.

tl;dr: They're good, there are other good headsets too, do what you feel like.

XM5 has 200ms latency and will hiss when used wired and turned on
they can still be turned off but then the EQ DSP is off and it will sound like ass
The same goes for XM6 but even worse, they have a lower latency mode but ANC has a permanent faint whistle
Also ANC can cause temporary tinnitus that takes days to weeks to resolve because of the white noise they produce in ANC mode.

What? It has no wire. Do you mean the power connection? The one it comes with is only a couple of cms long, way too short to use it. Also it recharges really really fast. Just a couple of minutes and it's at 100% again.

You are using it wrong.

>Also ANC can cause temporary tinnitus that takes days to weeks to resolve because of the white noise they produce in ANC mode.
Make people with tinnitus are just doing it wrong. You are not supposed to focus on the white noise. Just ignore it. lmao

>What? It has no wire.
It has a wire if you use it with the included 3.5mm cable and it is the only way to remove the latency bluetooth audio has, idiota
The way it works is the audio gets processed by the ADC in the headphone, then EQ DSP'd so it doesn't sound like ass, this process causes a hissing because the ADC is of poorer quality than the DAC.
>You are not supposed to focus on the white noise.
Prolonged exposition to ANC white noise *will* cause tinnitus and/or auditory processing disorders, it does not matter if you focus on it or not
It's not widely documentated but it has already happened to many people, there is a news article of a bose user offing themselves because of the damn ANC, the only mistake the guy did was trust that the ANC headphone would ANC without side effects.

I don't get that hissing sound.

I intentionally bought the WH-1000X M5, because it has good ANC and is wireless, so I can stand up and do other things, while continuing to listen to youtube videos. Also my neighbors are annoying, so I use the headphones to not have to hear them.

>Prolonged exposition to ANC white noise *will* cause tinnitus and/or auditory processing disorders, it does not matter if you focus on it or not
I have been using it for 2 years now and haven't noticed anything bad. The headphones are really good. Best I ever had. My only mistake was using alcoholic wipes to wipe them down, which destroyed the cushion, but Amazon just replaced them for me for free, because I still had warranty.

The 3.5mm cable is in the case, XM5 will have an small audible hiss when connecting to other devices and another thats much louder and cannot be ignored if used wired and turned on, turn off ANC to hear it more clearly

RIP to my old pair of these, 2018-2023. The wiring in the cable on mine probably became severed after years of the aux cable gently pulling down on it while left on the headphones rack.

ANC is fundamentally a problem, as it cancels noise by sending the opposite phase wave through the headphones to cancel out the sound waves you would've otherwise heard. Basically, it is constantly emitting inaudible sound into your ears. It's something that may be apropriate for short use, but regular exposure to long sessions of ANC 100% results in tinnitus and other possible hearing damage. You're better off getting a pair of closed backs that are noise ISOLATING, not cancelling. Noise isolation is all passive. It's about build quality, foam, insulation, etc.

My main question is why in the world do you need ANC at your desk/couch? The XM series are good cans (if a little bass heavy), so I'm not really shitting on that decision. It's a good buy, just not for how you're using them.
Anonymous No.724910682 [Report]

>My main question is why in the world do you need ANC at your desk/couch?
Because I am living in an multi-family house with a drug dealer below me, who likes to listen to loud music and my ANC can perfectly tune it out, allowing me some peace and quiet.

Once I live in a house again, I don't need them anymore, sure. But right now they are improving my quality of life.

Bruh what sort of crack addict logic. Active noise canceling might not make sense for computer use, and where the background noise isn't steady. But without it half the people flying pistons and turboprops would've gone deaf long ago.

Damn, that's a pain. This is when you should take advantage of Amazon. Research IEMs with a bigger shell and look into how they graph. Squiglink is your friend for graphs.

What's the point of open back when the world produces so much noise
>pc noise
>ac noise
>other people
>animals
>people mowing lawns
>cars
>airplanes
>helicopters
>birds

The world is a noisy noisy place. I hate it, closed backs just make sense to me. Isolate me completely from the world and build the sound around me.

Depends on your environment. Open-back headphones are more comfortable and have better soundstage to me. But I have the luxury of a quiet home.

If I lived somewhere like India they would probably be useless.

So you just confirmed my post, they are overpriced and have bad user reviews.
Currently a headset from reddragon offers wireless, surround sound and a detachable microphone.
At half the price of fidelio x2.

For me? It's the XM4 because it's wireless and has great ANC
>OMG! It has 200ms of latency
I've been using bluetooth headphones with similar latency for 8+ years now and you literally won't notice the difference when watching movies and playing games.
For competitive shooters you won't notice it unless you're at the pro level where every minor difference counts.
t. I was top 500 in Overwatch S1-2 (lol), Global in CSGO (lmao) and immortal in Dota 2 (holy kek).
Basically I'm always top 1% in every competitive game I play so people that put the blame of losing on their headphones are just shitters.
>ANC causes TINNITUS
High volume causes tinnitus, not anti-noise sound waves.
The whole "ANC causes tinnitus" is just people that already have tinnitus and some form of visual snow noticing it more when they wear ANC headphones with no sound playing

Headphones are better for pinpointing the sound of enemies in games, at least. Even in games like War Thunder this gives you a major advantage.

>it has a huge hole in the midbass and the usual middle finger treble
Those are features. Remember they are consumer headphones not studio monitors. They produce an excellent soundstage regardless but the low mids dip gives you even more separation, there is so much space it sounds like the music stretches out for yards around you. Combined with the boosted treble, it gives an overall really dreamy sound for orchestral music or really dreamy trancey electronic stuff, with all the air and space around everything and then the really rich sparkle of the brass and synths at the top. Absolutely kino with an OLED in HDR seeing particle effects pop out the screen when you cast a spell and hearing the glittery sparkle of the sound effect.

I just bought the Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro less than a week ago, moving on from using the Simgot EA500 IEMs.
Its definitely strange swapping from in ear to over and I'm still getting used to the pressure on my ears 5 days later but the sound quality is great although a bit quieter. Someone on /g/ explained that over ears are always quieter than in ears unfortunately. When I say quieter I mean that I've had to adjust volume settings, with my IEMs I could have my volume at 20 but with over ears it needs to be 50.
The Beyers sound great though and I've even started to hear background noises that I normally found inaudible partly due to hearing loss. So I have zero complaints aside from the ear pain that takes some getting used to.
Thanks again ni/g/gas.
