Why was it the best game ever made?

It wasn't, but it was the best story ever told in a video game. Every twist and turn was fantastically executed. The ending and post ending was beautifully done. Yaro Taco was unironically too good for the industry so they canned him before people realized his talents.

The interface in this game reminds me of classic Japanese PS2 games like Zone of the Enders and Metal Gear Solid. The choice of fonts really adds to that.
The game never gets unfun because it's constantly switching the gameplay up, it's mostly a character action hack n slash before the game throws you into bullet hell segments/mecha fights, and these parts are merged with the core gameplay rather intuitively.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's THE best game ever made, maybe to someone out there it is, but it is definitely up there.

It didn't overstay its welcome and did fun shit. Also some of the music is top tier.

mashing buttons could get you through just enough of it but never in too long of a stretch befroe you have to engage with mechanics, so it was accessible without being braindead. Having a handful of easy to understand enemies whose complexity came from their mixed unit tactics with each other added a whole lot of fun. So every fight was a bit like Capra Demon, where both enemies are easy to fight alone but the trick is figuring out how to not fight them together. The chip, weapon, and pod equipment selections meant you were making a true build taht fundamentally altered how you play and move around the map. Just like Yoko Taro said in interviews, there was never more than 20 minutes in a row that played like any other part of the game. The game changing up camera angles while preserving movement controls was brilliant.

Ocarina Of Time is still superior,
but N:A had some true soul and message it wanted to convey.

I liked the original Nier better.
It gave me a weird dreamlike feeling that stuck with me. I can't really explain it, but everything is just so slightly uncomfortably off. only other game to give me similar vibes was the first few chapters of Mother 3.
