Why did the western games industry decide that the audience that made them successful in the 90s and early 2000s, was no longer necessary?

(((in an effort to appeal to a wider audience)))...

They didn't think they were unnecessary. They just thought it was unnecessary to cater to them, because they would always eat whatever they served forever, so they only focused on trying to lock down a wider audience.

How many times has that ever worked?

no one said they weren't necessary
they just assume you'll keep buying their shit as they try to appeal to everyone else

the idea they have is that YOU (the oldfag) is already hooked in, now they want to get THEM (the newfags) to join in

I think they underestimate the amount of people who are discerning customers.

Not only that, but they wildly overestimated how much normalfags were gonna buy. They aren't the guys running out and buying 20+ games a year. Also, they didn't really understand that virtue signaling doesn't actually bring in that many customers.
I can imagine how much they were drooling while thinking that they were gonna expand their audience tenfold by roping in the normalfags. They wanted it so bad, that they lost all their critical thinking skills.

Normalfags are too busy playing Fortnite and other GAAS stuff. They don't want to play Dustborn or any of that other shit.

Exactly, but the suits don't fucking see that. This model of thinking has clearly been bad for business for most, but they don't seem to notice.
They are just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sells like Minecraft or Fortnite. Which wouldn't be THAT big of a problem for them, but they go all-in on this garbage, and then they end up with Concord.

>wider audience
>1% of the entire population gets 90% of the representation
>everyone is black on top of it
Yeah good luck with your dogshit dying industry. I'm gonna celebrate when gaming dies.

Most people cannot handle an imperfect choice. Everything has to come together on the "good" side, and so they convince themselves that leftist shit:
appeals to more people AND
is the right thing to do AND
is popular in their social circle AND
is good for their career
Anonymous No.725011961 [Report]
I think it's just inherently pointless to try to appeal to an audience. You can try to make what you think people want and still fall flat on your face with it. The key is just trying to make a good game. Making the game you'd want to play. It's still not guaranteed that people will buy it, of course, but at least then you don't end up with a product that's both unpopular and not even the thing you wanted to make.

They saw massive hype for Sony's DVD player, so they kept investing into it even though most of the game sales were to people who only bought yearly sportsball and watched TV.
The continued investment into consoles was dysentery for the industry, because consoles could not keep up with innovation and demands, requiring more funding and marketing.
This eventually hollowed out the industry and most of it was acquired by terminal bagholders who hired consultants.

If you want be taken seriously as an industry then maybe pay your devs like a fucking normal software company. Now all the old guard has jumped ship and suddenly "innovation" is expensive.

>hy did the western games industry decide that the audience that made them successful in the 90s and early 2000s, was no longer necessary?
because it's 30 years later and those gamers had to leave home, get a job, and raise kids. The ones that didn't are a minority of failure to thrives that you can safely ignore.

videogames are for teenage boys.
in the 90s and 00s, teenage boys were straight and white.
today, teenage boys are gay and brown.

This.

Importing infinity foriegners and replacing your demographic means future products and marketing will be geared towards those you were replaced by, even without woke jewish financial incentives to companies to do so.
If you had kept your culture and people intact similar products made for your grandkids even when you ceased being the targeted age bracket would have still reminded you of when you were the targeted age of consumer spending. Instead it will now feel like it is made for and marketed to a foriegn alien, just like your neighbors.

Games are also now worked on by changing groups of foriegn pajeets with few that start on the game being around by the time it is finished. Instead of a product of love by a dedicated team, it is a mix of what many different contractors did during their brief contribution they were only involved in for a paycheck.
