I've been playing Monster Hunter 2 / Dos on a PS2 with a network adapter with some random drunk Japanese salarymen who don't speak a lick of English for the past couple of months.
It's been a very pleasant experience, every evening I join them in a lobby and we just grind stuff together, they've been teaching me a bit of Japanese in chat. (mostly about beer, they drink like 10 cans of beer a night it's wild)

Has monster hunter always been this fun?
I never played any other one besides this one before and while I'm probably not planning on stopping doing this any time soon I was thinking of playing a different one (like maybe 1 or 3? or a newer one, I think it's called wilds?) during daytime while I don't have those dudes to grind with.
Maybe it'll help me improve a bit more too so I don't always eat shit and get tailspinned and knocked out at least once per session with them.

Monster hunter has a golden formula, personally I really like world. I just enjoy seeing the monsters fight and hunting them while I have a few beers after work

SoS was a mistake
Lobbies really help strangers bond together and help each other even if one teammate is bad at the game

Yeah, if it keeps this formula up to the newer games then that's great.
At first it was a pretty frustrating experience because the game doesn't really teach you anything and you die in like 2 hits so you really need to be on your shit and ready to stay on your toes for an hours but once you get the hang of it and have other people to fuck around with then it's really great.

For sure, I really love hanging out at the lobby town/tavern.

Ryujinx is an emulator, right?
I don't know if I'm smart enough to set that up, this ps2 and network stuff some friends helped set up for me, but they just don't play dos.
They play uhh metal gear online I think? And phantasy star online too, but you need a dreamcast for that one.
And I don't have metal gear yet so I had to find other people on my own for MH.

But I'll take a look at it, is the switch already not working online with that game that you need to emulate it?
Feels like not that long ago since it came out.

Maybe Freedom unite on emulator if you want to get better at Dos. the newer ones wont help you, they're faster paced with a lot of gimmicks

nta but GU will disappoint you after playing Dos and FU for how casualized it is in comparison, it basically led to everything wrong with nu-monhun.
