The way Nintendo operates in Europe is fucking bonkers. Outside of a few core countries, all other Nintendos in Europe are licensed franchisees like McDonald's.
As an example, there's a "Nintendo Sweden" but it's not actually owned or operated by Nintendo. Instead Nintendo has simply licensed the Nintendo brand name and given a regional marketing and importing monopoly to a third party company, in this case Bergsala.
This company then imports Nintendo products, markets Nintendo products, runs the Nintendo Sweden website, sells Nintendo products and is responsible for handing repairs for Nintendo products within Sweden. But they're not Nintendo.
So then, when I buy a Nintendo Switch from them and go to the eShop, who runs the eShop? Nintendo's surely not handing out the keys to third party companies to run that. And the answer as it turns out, is Nintendo Ireland.
The non-english speaking options listed as the store options, are the ones actually owned by Nintendo such as Nintendo France, and Nintendo Germany (which is actually what Nintendo of Europe is). Everyone else gets to use the Irish store. There's probably some tax loophole that makes Ireland the best place for it.
