I actually really liked the theories I saw on *how"* the time travel was going to be used. Like an non invasive form of time travel. It's been a while since I've watched stuff about it though. I like the idea of it though, and how it can connect Andromeda to the Milky Way. I'm just unsure on bringing back Shepard full fledged.

Yep, 3 could've been way WAY less rushed/full of conveniently huge plot changes like the krogan genophage shit + the quarians retaking homeworld if ME2 had handled those kinds of things as something of a leadup to the reaper war.

ME2 should've been (mostly) preparing galactic defences as much as possible before they arrived.

Anonymous No.725080924 [Report] >>725081139
In reality, there should have been 4 mass effect games. Have the 3rd be the preparation of the invasion, and the 4th is the actual invasion. You can keep Shepard dying at the start of 2 or even move it to the beginning of 3
Anonymous No.725080970 [Report] >>725081451 >>725086384 >>725086780
I mean nothing is stopping them from just setting a completely separate story during the events of ME1, 2, and 3 and tell interesting plotlines in an established universe and time-frame. The galaxy is fucking huge and a lot of planets have potential beyond being backdrops for shoot-outs.
But since EA and Bioware are completely on fumes and exhaust with their string of failures they HAVE to bring back Shepard and all the old faces. They cannot afford not to.
Anonymous No.725081139 [Report] >>725081448
>>725080924
>>725080838
The scope of the plotline of ME2 makes it feel like it should have been the 1st entry. Think about it, you stop a rare species of aliens from their freak project and kidnapping colonies. Then you get elevated to do proper Spectre work ala 1 and then retroactively get a proper introduction to Reapers. The escalation flows better than having Reapers get pushed to the periphery in 2. Or do the smarter thing overall and drop the reaper plot all together, have it so that without the vanguard + conduit, they don't wake up.
ME2 as we know it accomplished so little that it had ME3 do the heavy lifting of finding a way to stop the Reapers and then also doing it.
If ME2 just shared half the burden of finding a way to stop the reapers then ME3 might have been less fucked.

I like 2 as is because it establishes the Normandy and Shepard as this impossible force that can unite the most uncivilized aspects of the galaxy as well as the best of the cultures. I think it's important to show that the Normandy can go rogue and be the beacon that it would need to be in 3 to unite against the reapers. I like that you go into the bowels of society, in Omega and can still rise to the top and get in the pocket of the leaders, while still manipulating the council to let you do whatever even though you were rebuilt by a human supremacist organization. I love 2, I just wish we didn't have to jump from the adventure of 2 into the universe ending threat in 3 immediately. There NEEDED to be some buffer or prep.

Problem is anything set before ME3 will have the overhanging gloom of "why should I get invested in this when every major character in this game probably dies during the reaper invasion?"

Though I definitely think that Shep should stay gone no matter what, their story is done, simple as that. Given the promotional stuff we've seen so far though, it seems like at least Liara will be making a return, hopefully at least everyone else is dead from old age or just off doing something else.

I went back and played ME1 and I gotta say the Mako is definitely overhated.
Sure it's controls were a bit clunky but I had absolutely no problem navigating anywhere on the map once I knew what I was doing.
I used it as a IFV where I ran over the Geth tetrapod and then popped out and killed everyone else.

this is pretty much spot on. 2 is absolutely fine for plot as the middle entry for the overall reaper story. the problem is those fuckers just go through dark space into the galaxy between 2 and 3. it makes no sense. yeah the keepers would've sped up the process but if you can traverse intergalactic travel then who gives a shit. it also implies that they moved right after sovereign was defeated, so it's only a 2 or so year delay. that's nothing to them and the grand scheme of exterminating the entire galaxy. why not just travel regardless? they weren't on some reserve hibernation mode because they instantly started fucking shit up. even shep blowing up the alpha relayed delayed them by a few weeks if at all.

there should've been a more build up for the reapers showing up. maybe spend all of 3 with the illusive man either falling and/or being a more central antagonist depending on your actions in 2 with the collector base. then 4 is the full invasion and consequences of all your choices

That whole bit of the story, like almost everything in 3, was so poorly thought out it felt like rough draft material that they were forced to include due to time crunch or something. Like not only did the asari obtain about "countless technological advances" from the beacon while somehow learing nothing about the reapers despite being directly uplifted by the protheans, the illos message and the rasta space nigger hologram but they decided to seal it inside a statue in a public temple instead of an underground bunker that only government personnel and scientists have access to. I hate being so autistic that this shit still bothers me but it was really fucking bad.

>is the best antagonist in the franchise in your path
Seriously though, the trilogy really suffered from the fact there wasn't a proper concrete villain for the player to go up against throughout each of the main games outside of 1. ME2 was too busy being coy about Harbinger/Collector General to bother making them feel like an actual character, and he had zero presence in 3 to the point you wonder why he was built up at all. The Illusive Man flip-flops throughout 2 on being morally grey or outright villainous, and despite the game's best effort at depicting them otherwise, he and Cereberus come off as incredibly incompetent, having to rely upon Shepard to fix their constant mistakes. They even make a joke about it in the Citadel DLC. Compared to Saren, who was always shown being one-step ahead with numerous resources at his disposal that he actually uses effectively throughout the story.

Beyond horrendous character dialogue, graphics, and terrible characters, Andromeda was fucking boring.
They basically recycled the fucking plotline of the Protheans with the Remnants and they made their villains act like Reapers/Darkspawn by creating shock troops from assimilating other races.

The main problem with ME is that they had no concrete plan, and just made up stuff along the way. That bit them in the ass when developing 3.
Anonymous No.725087237 [Report] >>725087705
I went through the franchise earlier this year and stopped in the middle of 3. I actually think 2 is the worst one now going back. that game is so fucked up in the balance department and with how the skills are distributed it's unbelievable. you spend a vast majority of the game not getting any new skills or even upgrading anything because of how the upgrades are weighted. also the way that biotics are non-functional against shields is fucking ridiculous. they knew that shit was OP in 1 but man what a horrible overcorrection.

>ME2 was too busy being coy about Harbinger/Collector General to bother making them feel like an actual character,
And the collectors themselves were silent, boring jobbers who were only in 3 missions. I found it funny that the writers tried to treat them being protheans as some big revelation when it adds literally nothing to the story

I'd say Andromeda characters have much better arc and overall progression compared to most ME1-2 characters.

Krogan, the new race guy, asari archeologist or whatever are all interesting characters with nice arcs/developments.

Sure, the game rehashed the prothean/reaper plot points but the game also did the first contact very well. I really liked how you weren't able to understand most of the shit they were talking about but as the game progressed with the help of your AI they became intelligible. The fish race being very suspicious towards you was a nice touch. Their overall race is pretty good as being overly emotional. Them not understanding your idioms and being puzzled by them is how I would imagine a first contact with an alien race would actually happen.

The planet exploration is 5000x better than what ME1 and 2 did with neat little side quests. Dialogue is not that bad, comparing to ME1 and 2 as well. Hell, I can even say ME1 has more plot holes and pretty much nonexistent dialogue compared to Andromeda. ME2's overall plot is very thin and the game is held up with a great cyberpunk aesthetic starting hub zone (Omega) and 2 very memorable characters (Mordin and Legion). ME1 is liked because it did the world building well and it had a very memorable main villian, but also had a lot of plot holes. ME2 is liked... because idk why? It is not a bad game, I just don't understand what's great about it. Andromeda did world building as good as ME1 imho and doesn't have as much plot holes, but it lacked a good villian.

Was Andromeda a great game? No, but after playing ME1 and 2 recently right after Andromeda, I would say they are pretty much on the same level.

Thanks for reading my blogpost.
