>"next generation" successor
>in reality was the same system with just a couple of hardware upgrades (despite releasing almost 10 years later)
>large portion of its games were last-gen compatible and didn't take full advantage of the hardware
>lasted less than 5 years and was ultimately remembered as just a stop-gap until the real next-gen system arrived
hmm sounds familiar lol

Well, yeah. The GBA got delayed and was supposed to release in the late 90s.

GBC was only made because of the surprise success of Pokemon. Might as well refresh your 80's technology while it's surprisingly relevant in the late 90's.

Does anyone else have anti-Nintendo fatigue?

It's more interesting how GBA was only 3 year life cycle before DS and yet had tons of software for it. Developing for it must've been really easy.

>anti-Nintendo fatigue
most gamers just have regular nintendo fatigue, because they're tired of their anti-consumer business practices. the only ones with anti-nintendo fatigue are the ones who get irrationally angry at the slightest criticism of their precious video game company.

>same system with a couple of upgrades
Cunt, I can't describe what it was like going from green/black to colour games on a handheld as a kid. It was revolutionary.

the gba was still sold until 2008-2010 though. also the ds was backwards-compatible with gba so there was still a large market for gba games.

there were already color handheld systems available long before the gbc. and yes, for all intensive purposes the hardware was basically the same aside from a couple of upgrades. same thing with the ds and the dsi.

It had double the CPU speed and 4 times the RAM while using the same amount of power. I'd be happy if the Steam Deck 2 managed that.

That wasn't my point; yeah there were colour handhelds, but not for the gameboy; the differences between GBC>GB (colour, less batteries, greatly reduced size) were significant enough to be worthwhile as an option. The DS and DSi had a lot more in common.

If you want to shit on the Gameboy Pocket instead, then I'll agree with you

I loved my sega megadrive but nobody gave a single fuck about the game gear so it doesnt count. Only the Gameboy mattered.

Indeed, but beat'um ups were pretty fun. I remember playing Streets of Rage 2 on it quite a bit.
