I would do just about anything for a game that's a cross between Sid Meier's Pirates and AC4 Black Flag.

I don't know where people get this idea from. Pretty much every single one of Edward's friends are nonexistent in the story but the entire ending relies on you feeling sad about them and Edward reflecting on his time with them even though you barely experienced it with them and the entire time he was a pirate he was miserable and an immoral monster.
>Thatch is around for like two or three scenes max before he dies.
>Stede Bonnet was around for the intro, him becoming a pirate, and then you find out he died randomly when Edward is arrested.
>Hornigold is around for all of like two scenes, becomes a Templar, then you kill him when you just learn about his actual beliefs.
>Vane is an asshole, you get trapped on the island, and he goes insane so you kill him.
Mary is functionally the only one actually developed as a character because she regularly pushes back on Edward's beliefs, she regularly talks about her goals as an Assassin, and she gets all the character development until they finally start focusing on Edward post-Adewale's betrayal.

Until Ade betrays him it's all meandering beating you over the head over and over how Edward is chasing money while everyone around him isn't as greedy or vain and are baffled how one-track and immoral Edward is. Black Flag feels like it only starts as a game or story after Edward becomes an Assassin when he's actually forced to confront his past and his actions, and the game ends like an hour after that.

He's not even gay, it's just that dumbasses don't play on Canon Mode and then pick the gay options for no reason. In Canon Mode (I.e. the correct mode) he wants to be with Rin but friendzones her because he knows it can't be despite her throwing herself at him so he gets depressed after he does so. He also wants to be with Oichi but can't because that would lead to a whole host of issues having a guy get with Nobunaga's surviving wife and everything that comes with that.

They seriously messed up not having "Canon Mode" on by default since it's defines every choice both characters make in the story exactly like how the Animus works, not this dumb "pick and choose" thing Odyssey introduced that has been a massive detriment to the series as a whole because now people want to make dialogue choices even though it literally makes no sense that you can. Dialogue choices should immediately desync you since it's not making you closer to the ancestor's memories, it's you choosing thereby giving yourself agency.

If you just mean picking him in general, yeah, Yasuke was such a dumb choice to make a playable MC. Taka is literally right there staring them in the face and they already had an established story with Memories that they didn't go with. Yasuke could have easily been a side characte who passed information to Taka and Naoe but no, he has to be fluent in Japanese, he has to have everyone call him the coolest guy around, everyone knows who he is to the point that literal bandits who have rags for clothes innawoods go "Yasuke-sama!", and it has huge ramifications for history because every NPC you meet knows who he is or says his actions will reverberate across the country yet no one's ever heard that he was literally spearheading Nobunaga's armies and killing notable figures after his death?

What sucks is that Yasuke is the best written character in the game so it's rubbing salt in the wound that could have gone to Taka.
