Finally finished forcing myself to slog through this dull piece of shit after attempting to many times in the past 15 years and I would unironically rate it 2/10. I literally cannot think of any aspect of the game that is good or praiseworthy. Incredibly simplistic, linear, and shitty, with braindead combat.
It is literally the worst immersive sim ever made. Deus Ex came out a year later and is a masterpiece. Even Bioshock is better (especially 2). I see retards on /v/ call Prey the poor man's System Shock 2 despite every mechanic of that game having infinitely more depth. VtMB sucks but at least the first section of that game is good before getting progressively worse while SS2 is shit from the beginning and then becomes even shittier at the end.
A sincere fuck you to the e-celeb drones still shilling this piece of shit. This game is a meme.

I played this soon after Bioshock dropped, and I was blown away. Played it twice in a row within couple weeks. Afterwards, BS felt like a massive disappointment.

If you want to see some actually overrated garbage, look no further than TLOU, AssCreeds, nu-DOOM and Wolfenstein games, any COD from the past 20 years, any of the RE-Engine games, or any of the Unreal 5 games.

I tried playing the SS1 remake but got pretty frustrated with super limited ammo/supplies and constantly respawning enemies.

I can see that it would have been way ahead of its time when it came out.
I absolutely loved SS1 Remake when that came out and was very hyped for SS2 anniversary.
Honestly, I don't even think with a proper remaster it would really fix 2 - the systems just don't really stand up by today's standards, the atmosphere is good but too samey - SS1R had great variety between its levels, 95% of SS2 just felt like the same corridors pasted together.
Also while SHODAN is iconic, and I enjoyed Xerxes, the story just felt like a rehash - the only thing that I particularly liked about it was the plot callback to ejecting the ecopod during SS1 causing much of the plot of the second game.
