What's the genuine appeal of cozy games? Why do people want to waste their time on doing fake chores when they could be playing anything more engaging or even just working on fixing their real life?

It’s supposed to be relaxing. Idk I just really enjoy animal crossing, it’s very charming even new horizons is still pretty good even if a lot of the personality is gone.

Why do you care. You are probably under 25, go rape someone or whatever you young people do now.

What's the appeal of being alive when you will just die and lose everything in the end anyways, op?

Escapism without challenge. It’s fun once in a while, but Animal Crossing especially gets boring. I liked it on Gamecube as a kid though.

>Gardening in real life
>hot in summer, cold in winter, tiring, could potentially hurt yourself if you’re stupid, tedious, dirty, bugs everywhere, need to buy and store tools and supplies, could get ruined by neighbor’s dog or the weather
>Gardening in a game
>largely passive, often instant, easy, number go up, characters may react and compliment your work, comfortable in doors, only danger of losing your work if the mechanics allow it
I can’t believe a lazy person would pick the second option. What a strange phenomenon.

As someone who had to scrape for nearly a decade to barely afford a house, even having access to some dirt to garden in isn't an option for a lot of people. You may get lucky renting a house with a benevolent landlord who will let you dig up the yard, but even then you cant plant fruit trees or berry bushes without risking the rent going up too much and having to leave it all behind. I have my garden now but stardew valley and animal crossing and the like helped keep the dream alive in the meantime.
