I do think it's funny that because the galaxy is so huge an entire planet being glassed isn't some massive outlier genocide but just a statistic. Like when Force Awakens destroyed an entire Star System, probably billions maybe even a trillion people dying and that's kind of a relative norm for the setting.

I know a lot of people really praised BioWare's writing back in the day, but it was never that good. It was mostly just interesting enough to capture your attention, but it was really at its best when it was being cheesy and earnest about it. KotOR feels like a fun space adventure with the homies just like Baldur's Gate felt like a fun fantasy adventure. It's a lost kind of RPG writing that was allowed to be whimsical and unironic. I appreciate that, even more so nowadays.

That's the whole point of Malak. Revan is an enlightened despot in the vein of Caesar or Augustus, whose authoritarianism is rooted in practical concerns (he believes that the Republic is dysfunctional on a fundamental level and that the Senate and the Jedi Order don't have it takes to actually fix it). Malak is essentially Sulla or Caligula a morally bankrupt piece of shit whose in it solely to fulfill his own narcissistic urge to dominate those below him.

Dialogue in 2 owns. Both player agency, options, skill checks in dialogue, multiple ways to solve every quest. The companion dialogues have been expanded, influence as a concept, companions interacting more.

Generally the writing is more mature and believable. Kotor 1 is extremely childish most of the time.

2 also has superior combat and skills/feats/powers- as well as the upgrade and crafting system.

On a replay there's really no comparison

First of all, he wasn't just trying to kill Bastilla. Revan was with her and they were both in their most vulnerable state ever, so it makes sense that he would go to such extreme lengths to make sure they died. He correctly realized that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It would actually be more ridiculous, in a Bond villain way, to not bomb Taris to rubble.
What I want to know is how the FUCK did Calo Nord survive the bombing when he was on one of the upper floors of a huge skyscraper, took a direct hit from turbo laser shrapnel, got buried under rubble, and then got trapped in a building as it was 9/11'd... i guess we can just assume he pulled himself out and stole a spaceship? This is Star Wars so I know characters can be assumed to be alive unless very explicitly killed, but still, if anything about the destruction of Taris was cartoony it was that

The last part of the Arena quest is best done after completing the rest of Taris but before you go to Daviks estate. Twitch you can pepper with grenades and Bendak is better at range than melee so after wearing him down flurry should do the trick after you stun him with some concussion grenades.
