Nah , we've already seen this with Palworld: people want to play the contrarian because they're tired of the lack of investment in design.

That said, Pokémon Legends ZA is still a good game and overshadow Digimon which only appeals to a niche audience.

If by that you mean that almost everything is different except both games having monsters in a party, then I guess. It's a stretch even comparing the DS games, CS or Time Stranger to Pokemon, let alone any of the other titles.

I don't care about sales. What I'm after is a genuinely fun game, and that's Time Stranger. I couldn't ask for more than that. Digimon is pvre kvno right now, and I'm all for it

If someone said they were looking for an SRPG you might add Disgaea to the list as a fringe option depending on what other criteria they asked for, but you wouldn't if they simply asked for another game like Fire Emblem or vice versa. But even if you would, those two games have a lot more in common in terms of mechanics than the Story games and mainline Pokemon do.

They way that you get new monsters, fight, evolve, learn new moves and level up are all entirely different. Even the narrative reasons why you do all of that are not the same, so you can't even claim that they're similar in that regard like you might for say Bakugan and Yugioh. You can make comparisons if you want, just like how you can compare Pokemon to Monster Sanctuary or Kaiju Ultra Battle Breeders, but that doesn't change the games being vastly different.
Digimon is not a Pokemon clone or Pokemon-like, it never has been.
