I've only heard good things about The Witcher 1. Didn't play it, mind you, as it seems too dated for me. I know TW2 is pretty good, but I didn't even finish the opening sequence since I sucked at combat and three guards kept kicking my ass so I quit. Played The Witcher 3 all the way through + DLCs (Blood and Wine was amazing and a breath of fresh air from the gloomy, muddy, should I say, medival Britain astetics of the main game), took me 74 hours and I didn't even finish every side quest/activity. Had a blast! I tried a replay of TW3 4 months ago but I'm bored and only just got to the A Towerful of Mice quest, I just can't bring myself to grind up to Novigrad where the game opens-up a little more. I miss those days where I could just zone-out and be immersed in a gameworld for 6-10 hours at a time and just play. But my motivation to play games is low these days.

In the original edition it was really fucking annoying because of the long loading screens. I read the enhanced edition significantly cut down on loading time so it might be less aggravating biw, but I imagine going from Vizima to Dyke, then from Dyke to Swamp, and then back again a bunch of times is still a pain.

I 100% it on the hardest difficulty. It's boring and unrewarding. The RPG Elements are just beefgates. Get enough power to beat this guy so you can grab enough xp and gold to beat this other guy. There was some charm, but never ever let a europoor tell you this is a good game.

Hold version of Yrdin is really useful thing to use at chokepoints since it can easily stagger enemies. It can even trivalize bosses since Bosses have almost no resistance to it during their attack animation

The worst things about witcher are anything related to wild hunt, white cold and the end of the world, Ciri and Yennefer. Regardless of all of the other things, W1 is the best one simply because it stood the farthest away from all of the nonsense that was put in the books. And W3 is the worst one, because it did the exact opposite. Witcher is at it's best when it deals with the local troubles, even if they are not related to the monsters. The addition of world and even dimension encompassing threats and powers only ruins everything.

story wise I totally agree. and honestly, almost everyone does which is why everyone gushes over stuff like the baron questline, and some of the sidequests like the werewolf ones, both of the DLCs, and nobody gushes over anything to do with the main story or ciri.

its the same with the books. the last wish and sword of destiny are both considered better than the mainline saga. actual witcher fans just wanted witcher shit, the wild hunt was an interesting threat to have in the peripheral.

To be fair, this is a common issue with the video games. They would've been considerably improved if instead of saving the world from whatever ancient evil that has recently awoken they introduced more modest plots, like: solve the dispute between two states that are about to go to war with each other, lead a group of people out of a country that is being ravaged by war, lead an expedition to the far away lands to acquire exotic plants and animals etc.

But that sword is for monsters...

W3 main plot is good but the ending is aids. the middle fight with the general is badass. the main plot also lacks side intrigue into it. I don't blame them they were pressed to finish the game and the rest of it is great, then the DLC main plots, two big main plots are absolutely fire.
