It's improved in every way other than story and hub world.

Gameplay is overall an improvement in basically every area, though the meta progression does feel a bit slower to start with.
Music is overall the same, though God of the Dead is still the top track.
The main downgrades are the Dialogue and Story, which take a pretty big nosedive. The best girl can't even be romanced despite her literally writing a love song about the MC

Early on the game kinda sucks since you're still learning everything and you get your ass kicked. Mid and late game is better, when you've got a lot of upgrades and you're finally getting a grasp on what's good and not (fuck you Ares, I hate you)
Once you hit postgame and get those Fate's Whim keepsakes and you keep pushing your Fear higher and higher, on top of learning the Vow of Rivals fights, the game is so, so much better and more fun than the original it's not even funny.
