>You don't own your Steam games
Technically I don't even own the land my house is on, which means I don't even really own the house and the governent could in theory throw me in prison for whatever they fucking feel like with the stroke of a pen.

Now i'm not saying Steam isn't scummy and you shouldn't pirate everything anyway, but if you think you "own" anything in the this world, boy are you mistaken and Steam is the least of your fucking problems.

Okay?
GOG is the closest to game "ownership" for digital games otherwise it's the same shit for any digital game.

Said it in the other thread, will say it in this thread: Physicalfags are delusional, games were already just licenses when they were on cartridges, they just had no reasonable way to revoke them.
If publishers were still doing mostly physical sales for games, then every game would have a 16 digit online activation code, and if you can't online verify (because you have no code, or the server is offline) you won't be able to play. We were already heading that way before digital took over. Game publishers would not give their digital rights nonsense up.
It's also worth pointing out for the "you will own nothing" fags: Steam has a history of not taking anything away from the user ever. Devs can requests access to be revoked, but valve itself, no matter what you do, has never taken anyones games away and likely never will as long as gabe still has something to say.

ONLY Nintendo consoles, and specifically games that don't use key cards, can say they have any sort of ownership.

If you buy a disk, but the full game isn't on the disk, you are in the same boat.

>"Removes the middle man"
I know this is in reference towards Google and Apple in which they were prepared to be kicked off and start a lawsuit (these documents are real and came from discovery). But it was really awkward to mention Steam here when Steam is just as much as a middle-man as they are.
Reminder that Epic is a proxy for Tencent and in Asian markets it is actually normal for digital stores to take a 50% cut. So when Steam goes to shit about GabeN is gone I kinda want Epic to win only to do a bait and switch to not just 30%, but the Asian standard of 50%, because the drama and memes would be amazing.

You're right that digital versus "physical" doesn't matter. But having to agree to a EULA without reading it versus someone handing you a game and saying "here you go" doesn't matter either. Expectations of what the distributor may or may not do especially doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what they can enforce. Case in point:
>>725307852
I'm not even going to check if this is true because it literally doesn't matter. Maybe the EULA literally says GOG can revoke your game licenses, or maybe it just says some nothingburger shit like you don't have the right to make copies for your friends. It doesn't matter. Because if there's no DRM then nothing can be enforced. For all intents and purposes, the license for a GOG game is "here you go". Because there is no mechanism by which they can take away my copy of Brigador or whatever. All they can do is revoke my ability to download a game again, which I don't need if I already downloaded it and kept my finger off the delete key. Sure, I could lose the copy I downloaded, but I could also break a cartridge or a disc.

You also don't own Windows. In fact, when PC still sold physical copies of shit, the discs would come in a paper envelope. If you broke the seal, you were agreeing to the TOS written on the envelope that said ... that's right ... you don't own shit.

I have $1800 in my steam wallet from a bot running on a raspberry pi which buys and sells shit on the marketplace for me that makes about $10-40 a month completely passively.

Nintendo is perfectly capable of disabling game cards. They do that all the time for pirated games. As long as a company is able to disable your game, you don't own that game. This leaves either GoG, Steam, or piracy as the only options.

You don't own anything on Steam, not even your profile or achievements. The shit you "buy" there is rented through a license, if they revoke the license, you don't have a game.

You don't legally own your physical copies either.
You have a disk that will deteriorate.
I have files that are uploaded in a million places on the internet even if steam disappears overnight.
