Why are gaming PCs more popular than consoles now?

people are just shooting for future proofing at this point and wanting to abandon consoles, because consoles are by and large just locked down, arbitrarily restricted pc architecture now anyway. why NOT get a gaming pc besides for a few exclusives?

Streamers and streamer culture. Little kids grow up on streamers and see the shit they do and play, and want to emulate them. Monkey see monkey do.

Quality, technology etc has nothing to do with it, PC have become as expensive as they used to be in the 90s, in the 00s and early 10s a pc was ALWAYS better and cheaper than a console, and yet consoles were more popular. Now a low-mid PC is $1000, and yet kids still want the PC. It's the streamers.

Marketing. There are endless pc part manufacturers and they spend a lot of money to make it seem like everyone has the latest doodahs. Streamers then take that marketing money and make it seem like you can’t game on anything else. It becomes a lifestyle thing. Truthfully, I hate that it’s become this way.

Yeah I'd say that also. My friend's 11 year old brother is like this. He got given a Nintendo Switch, a second hand PS4, and yet he's always telling his parents he wants a $1000 PC to play Fortnite better. The value of a PC is a lot better than that of a console but for most people who play 1 or 2 normie games mostly, they're never going to see that value. So for most people I say stick to consoles, people who have the desire to emulate, play old games, play niche games, mod games, etc, should always go for a PC.

It's not a fair comparison because top generates 3 frames out of 4, and the 4th is upscaled from 360p, and bottom runs natively. For reference, you can do the same on Deck with Lossless scaling.

Right now? We just got flooded by more financial speculators. BUT, BUT the chinks recently started reselling their gutted PS5 mining SoCs and started selling them... They briefly cost $50 and shot up to 2.2x that. Just saying, they're slightly weaker, defective units, but can get you gaming for the lowest price possible under Linux.

The games I actually play don't have any. They're actually limited to just Genshit-onward Mihomo games, random Switch games, and post-Morrowind Elder Scrolls games.
