If the whole site went down how much information would be lost and how long would it take to rebuild?

Thousands of archaic NES/SNES games' info would be lost forever. The damage would be irreparable.

It would be like when tumblr died. People would be upset for a couple days then realize they can get the same content elsewhere.
Anonymous No.725346728 [Report]
>>725345426
It would be impossible. There would simply be games that could not be completed.

none/no time because discord exists

Pretty sure, like Wikipedia, archiving the text-based guides right now wouldn't take more than low single digit gigabytes of storage.

It was a site made for people too poor to buy strategy guides and internet speed faster than dial up.
The fact that it lasted past the 2010s is astonishing. It's pretty much ResetEra except everyone is 40+ years old and 400 pounds.

The ASCII art in guides was pretty soulful.

I think as long as they're on the Internet Archive we should be good.

That's fallacious reasoning, what if internet archive closes? Then everything is lost for good

Most of the good information is contained in the message boards, not guides. To my knowledge no one has made an effort in archiving those.

Or it could be because it was convenient to find in-depth guides with a couple clicks, really mind-boggling I know.

The Internet Archive should have one from the date when fandom bought them since everyone was expecting them to shut it down and convert it into one of their wikias.

SBAllen wasn't that bad. There's a new admin now who is 100x worse. Basically they hired a new generation of mods who are all from Discord and Resetera. They're clueless about Gamefaqs site culture and how the forums work.

There was a torrent up of all the faqs a year or two ago, except some of the newer ones that had a lot of pictures. There's probably still archives floating around somewhere for those interested in grabbing it now,.

They tried making a new format to replace simple text documents, and it sucked. And then wikis happened and were all around better than FAQs.

Someday the boards will disappear, just like the IMDB boards, and all that information will be lost, like tears in rain.
