Here’s a simple, classic chocolate cake recipe — easy to make, rich, and moist:
Simple Chocolate Cake
Total time: ~1 hour
Serves: 8–10 slices
Ingredients
For the cake:
1 and ¾ cups (220 g) all-purpose flour
¾ cup (65 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1 and ½ tsp baking powder
1 and ½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 and ½ cups (300 g) sugar
2 large eggs
1 cup (240 ml) milk
½ cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup (240 ml) boiling water or hot coffee (coffee enhances chocolate flavor)
For the frosting (optional):
½ cup (115 g) butter, softened
⅔ cup (55 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
3 cups (360 g) powdered sugar
⅓ cup (80 ml) milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 175 °C (350 °F). Grease and flour two 20 cm (8 in) round pans or one 23 cm (9 in) square pan.
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
Add wet ingredients: Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth (about 2 minutes).
Add hot water or coffee: Stir it in slowly — the batter will be thin, that’s okay!
Bake: Pour batter into the pan(s). Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool completely before frosting.
Frosting:
Beat butter until creamy.
Add cocoa and mix well.
Gradually beat in powdered sugar, alternating with milk.
Add vanilla and beat until smooth and spreadable.
Would you like me to make it into a one-bowl version (less cleanup, same taste)?
