This is sorta where I feel like that homegrown internet media machine has just utterly degraded. You used to be able to see a bunch of weirdos come together on a niche forum and just cobble together a huge passion project on a budget of zero. AVGN was just James dicking around to make his friends laugh. Ace Attorney fan forum made an entire fucking musical back then and paid out of pocket for travel to promote it at cons. Even Skyrim/Oblivion's most popular mod, Vilja, just involved the creator having a friend do voicelines.

The English Voice Acting industry isn't really even an industry. It's dregs picked up on Youtube and Twitter and then actual actors who need a quick buck and use their fame/notoriety to bring eyes to the project. You have SOME middle-ground bu the industry doesn't seem sustainable without paying peanuts to the dregs.
So why would anyone truly want to enter into that industry if you weren't already acting somewhere else when it hardly pays?

At least Japan actually treats it seriously enough to have MULTIPLE big agencies founded by other voice actors and have enormous competition? You could easily say there are generations of up and coming new VAs but what does the west really have aside from the old guard?
