OoT has a damn near immaculate mix of content at the end of the road, and the road itself being just the right size to build up to it. And just when you'd get tired of going down the road over and over, you get the horse to make it more interesting. And just when you'd be bored of that? You have all the songs collected to teleport anywhere. Masterful game design that modern open worlds should still take notes from.

Nah, just tendies who started playing games in 1998 when their parents bought it for them for Christmas and then proceeded to fight in the other room. It was always shit and anything you hear about it being revolutionary for 3D games is nonsense.

I'll give them points for deliberately timing it so that nightfall hits right as a casual player is nearing Hyrule castle.
I will then deduct a point for making the player stand in front of a closed drawbridge and kill infinitely spawning Stalchildren for a minute and 20 seconds that feels like 5 minutes.

Probably because i’m on the later side of my generation but I wasn’t really that impressed by the 3D transition. Think I was more blown away the first time I played pilot wings 64 than oot as I hadn’t played any Zelda before

Yes, it's called experiencing the evolution of gaming. It was glorious and zoomies sorely missed out.

For me it was playing Mario 64 for the first time. It blew my fucking mind, even though the actual characters were 2D sprites. 3D movement through a world like that was crazy after having mostly played 2D side scrollers and the like. Mario 64 also was fucking insane, as were games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro too. Never got into Banjo but I imagine that was pretty magical at the time.

And playing GTA 3 for the first time blew my fucking mind. There just werent many sandbox games like that with that much freedom on how you want to play. I'd just restart the opening mission and never finish it, driving around like crazy and going on killing sprees. There was really nothing else like it before that.

Zoomies don't know 3D games existed in the 90s, they think it was the era of Atari and NES.

Technically, the early 90s was the era of the NES, which makes the fact that Ocarina of Time also came out in that decade even more impressive.

You can't put the whole decade into one bucket like that, the amount of progress was so staggering that every year might as well be its own category. OoT was good but I wouldn't say it dominated on release at all.

Nah, I was more advanced. In this game, when you roll and go into first person at the right frames, it gave you a very low angle FPV, upon which I could look up at the naked fish girl from below.

Anonymous No.725512227 [Report]

It was good because it was the only part of the game that had any semblence of the classic formula before devolving into bland open world slop. It's telling that you get 99% of your tools there and are basically done with progression the second you step foot off it.

It's not a coincidence that every post-N64 3D Zelda struggles with scale. They made the worlds bigger and bigger, but they haven't managed to saturate them like they did when games as a whole were smaller.
Nintendo claimed they'd be trying to make smaller games in less time on the side. I hope Zelda is one of the series that gets included in this initiative.

I played it for the first time a few years ago and I understood the hype. The game is simply fun like some Disney classic and executes the hero's journey like no other game. The only real flaw is that rupees are useless.
