Skyrim.

What were (You) doing on 11/11/11?
I stayed up all night to play the game on Low Settings 800x600 resolution.

I saw all teh memes and knew I had to play.
This was before I was regularly browsing the 'chon and back then I only came to /b/, so I was shielded from /v/ propaganda.
a few days after it released I was a junior in high school playing it in my room.
I remember just messing around jumping from iceberg to iceberg when my girlfriend came into my room (My mom knew i didnt like visitors to my inner sanctum so i dont know why she let her in) gf says "lets drive around and hang out"~. I was kinda annoyed because i didnt know what she wanted to do and i was busy testing my skills. I went anyway and turns out she wanted to get down but i couldnt get hard so we drove back home and i went back to laughing at the cinematic greatsword kills.

I played it for a few hours and got bored. If it goes on a really huge sale I'll give it another shot.
I like immersive open world RPGS on paper, but in practice there's usually something I dont like about it.
Skyrim has bad combat and requires too many mods, KCD2 crosses the line from immersive to cumbersome and has a really bad UI, Fallouts dreary wastelands bore me, Minecraft lacks too much of goal besides build for nobody, Necesse still feels unfinished, Dragons Dogma 2 is too much of a downgrade over 1, etc. etc.
Enshrouded is the only one I've played that captured me after a bit of controller reconfiguring. I put it down since EA but I've still got my eye on it and am looking forward to the full release.

I was about to graduate high school and wasnt even aware 4chan existed yet.
I was new to PC gaming in general and all my gaming "news" came from a torrent site and when i saw a medieval fantasy open world RPG i was imediately interested.

I remember playing it on low and 800x600 because it ran like shit on my pc, but still, exploring Skyrim for the first time with no spoilers or guides or anything like that was an amazing experience. Its why i always say Bethesda games are 9/10 on your first playthrough but eventually fall back into a 6/10 once you really how sallow everything really is.

Pirated it.
Was under wrong impression it's proper game and not walking sim theme park with half baked combat system. After patching it myself finally finished main quest, then got filtered by more bugs. Then waited for legendary edition with patches and dlc, downloaded it, finished and noticed how boring and hollow this game is.
Only thing skyrim is good for is modding because it's bad game in every aspect exept atmosphere.

Probably playing skyrim, but it might have been a few days later when I got the game. Played it on the 360, certainly sunk a shitload of time into it. Played a restoration/one-handed build, which was unfortunate in hindsight given how mechanically bland a way to play that is without even the engagement of timing blocking and shield bashing, rather just spamming healing spells and basic attacks. But I was an idiot kid back then, so I had a fun time of it anyway.

I remember being very disappointed that classes and such were gone and thought the tutorial bit was shit, but stopped caring the moment you finally were given freedom to do whatever.
I really loved that first playthrough until the half way point, where I noticed how everything was shallow and gutted, barely being an RPG.

When I say "everyone else" I'm referring to everyone who can at least put one foot over the threshold of what's considered human. The only person I have EVER met off the internet that likes bethesda games was unironically 400lb stoner that lived in a trailer that was getting cucked by his girlfriend. All he'd play was "good ass RPGs" to cool off at 2AM in the morning after his GF's son went to bed. He would literally play Fallout 76 with his stoner buddies on his phones hotspot wifi. These games are for utterly broken cattle. No one that isn't a total bum is playing this stuff, and the threads reflect that. Every single one of these threads is total trash.

The only reason i liked this game as a 12 year old is that i was also reading my first fantasy book (hobbit) and i associated the game with Tolkien story writing. No surprise that i have never finished the game on my old save file.
It's tricky though, because i remember being very nostalgic for the game at some point in my teenage years. The great trick of this game is that its ambience gives the illusion of world building while it's not even shallow.
Also the quest marker are just the embodiment of what one of bethesda story writers said paraphrased: they've been making games for casual players for a long time, approximatively since oblivion.

Sandy Bridge was insane too. Strong IPC compared to the first gen. Hyper Threading.
3.1Ghz 2C + 4T. Imagine a fucking Core i3 absolutely destroying first gen Core i5's. It destoryed the Phenom 955 x4. Even the successors, the FX series, even the FX 8350 couldn't touch it, a fucking Core i3 LMAO.

Sandy Bridge had strong IPC, which games favor more than core count, and the actual FX cores are fake modules, they aren't real cores. So the FX4350, 6350, 8350 don't actually have real 4/6/8 cores count. Plus their IPC fucking sucks. Bulldozer was a fucking joke. AMD Ryzen was their savior and that really made Intel shook, after reigning supreme with their 2nd to 6th gen lineups. Especially when the Pentium G6400 starts getting 4T and HT, an $80 "i3".

With Zen and Ryzen series, and even their lowest G equivalent series, with the Athlon 200GE getting 2C + 4T AND Vega iGPU/APU @ fucking $50, Intel was shook, especially with their shitty 7th gen. That's whe. They finally decided to actuslly break out of the tick-tock shit up the cores count and cut prices to complete with Zen, with the 8th gen Intel now getting 4/6/8cores with i3/i5/i7 lines.

In all the years thereafter I never made it past whiterun. If I launch the game and try to play, I am immediately filled with a terrible type of ennui and shut it off immediately.
When I think back to Skyrim all that comes to mind are the NPCs with horrible voice acting, the movement which feels stiff, the combat which feels weightless and impactless and its washed out color palette where everything is covered in some sort of dirt

In all my life I have never actually made it past the first dungeon, the one with the claw

I have nothing else to add. I have never understood the appeal of Skyrim. And as for modding, the "sprinkles on a turd" metaphor is apt. The best way to play Skyrim is not to play it at all

I played the entire summer, from 7AM-3PM is when the xbox would freeze so I would call it a night. I poured 1000s of hours in the 360 copy alone. So much so that I sluffed school to play skyrim when the summer was over. The next year I got a gaming PC which lead me into installing fetish mods that broke me. Instead of dating I was edging while I played skyrim nonstop to 2019.

Todd's magnum opus stole my youth and sent me to the depths of neetdom. If I never played skyrim I my life would have been different, I would be married have a six figure job but now I neet for a year, wagecuck for a year in this cycle of playing my fetish modded skyrim, and fallout 4 to spice it up.

>why
because Todd and Bethesda are retards who cannot even get a pair of gloves (clothing, not armor) into a game and for it to fit with other clothing (not armor) items. The answer is in the same vein as "why does the player have only one ring slot?" - because fuck the player, thats why.
And so you have to resort to mods. Now, if you still want vanilla-ish, and have access to creation kit, and can fiddle with it a bit, you can get the hoods from hooded robes - black, blue, green, red (my favourite), yellow - by separating them from the hooded robes (because that item is a composite of two armor models - robe and hood), so simply unticking robe and creating a new formID (and entering new name and new editor name) will get you a hood that you can equip and will fit (sometimes with clipping, sometimes without) pretty much anything.
Or just get a mod. I did it the hard way as soon as CK became available for skyrim. Once you throwl through it, you will see just how much shit Todd and Co. fucked up and could've fixed, but 11/11/11 was THE date. Fucking hate them.
