Any fightan game will take you deep into psychology and human emotion if you get serious. It's an open-ended challenge with a near limitless number of opponents who are always updating their tactics in real time.

And most turn based games have a ton of strategic/tactical depth once you get past the "I click Attack" stage. Pokemon is a good example of this. You can mash your starter through most of the main games due to overleveling and badge boost. But the post game battle towers (and comp) force you to engage more deeply on a strategic level. You'll have to consider setups, status moves, counters, abilities, stat training, breeding, switching, prediction, synergistic combos, and niche interactions if you want to win.
