It's understandable, they know their market, they know their target fanbase. It is smart in the end because Nintendo cant secure the wigger fanbase, that's been sony's main market since ps2. This all however, is still Nintendo's own fault and all of this is their own doing. They kept trying to play special media snowflake. Carts, mini-discs, whatever let them sell storage media to their publishers/developers. Their own greed and desperation for control lost them an entire market. The "Blue ocean strategy" was damage control for their folly in the mainstream market, and it did work. However we'll never ever see mainstream titles from series that actually matter like final fantasy ever again, and if they do come they come late on the next platform Nintendo releases.

It won't sell much in the long run and Nintendo will roll out their actual next-gen console within the next 5 years.
