People are afraid of the terminal, the public is not interested in the philosophy behind Linux and just want something that boots the thing they want to use, incompatible with a lot of anti-cheat software, zoomers do not want to jump through hoops to play/use the software they like (generation raised on Android/iPad), most people accept the OS their PC came with and just press the upgrade button when the time comes to do so, Linux does not come prebundled with PCs/Laptops, learning a new OS is a chore, Linux can be very uneven in terms of quality, screensharing does not work (you would be surprised to know how often zoom-zooms sit in a discord watching each other stream vidya), etc.

There are many and multifaceted reasons that hold Linux back. It is sad, but at least it is not going to get ruined like Windows, gaming, anime and all the other hobbies that normies destroyed.

Kernel level anticheat doesn't work nice with it and Battlefield Of Duty almost always has it now.

That aside give it time, the other large reason is the stigma where people assume Ubuntu doesn't have a desktop and search function that works like Windows' used to back when it actually could find files when you type out a partial name or directory.

Because Linux trannies spent many many years building a reputation for the OS that it's completely incompetent for gaming. While everyone else was playing games just fine on Windows, Linux troons had to cope with glitches, bad performance and having to jump through hoops just to run anything more advanced than Tux Kart.
Also a game being able to "run" is one thing - stability, performance, the level of tweaking you need to do and various things like frame pacing, visul glitches or quirks that can pop up from trying to emulate windows on Linux are another issue.
People don't want "90% of games kinda work", they want "99% of games work perfectly".

It's more like they used it for half an hour, never Googled how to update packages and never did a copy/paste to actually update them because terminal is so scary pasting in a single command that gets all your drivers for you instead of hunting them down across manufacturer sites on Windows is preferable.

That and fags here keep suggesting Mint and shit with way more setup than necessary for a "I just want it to work" gamer.

Scenario A:
Dedicated gaming machine. You treat it like a console: It's for Steam games and nothing else. You want it to boot straight into Steam and you don't want to need a keyboard and mouse. Likely a living room HTPC setup. Desktop or min-pc form factor, AMD hardware.
In this scenario, Linux works better than Windows. Bazzite-deck makes for a flawless "steam console" experience. Updates are seamless, occasional, and never force you to reboot. The overlay and gamepad controls are better than anything you can set up on Windows.
Everything just works. Highly recommended.

Scenario B:
You play games but also use the machine for general desktop tasks, creative work like image and video editing, office stuff, maybe work, maybe you like to generate AI pictures to goon to. It's a laptop with an Nvidia optimus switchable graphics setup. You play a lot of non-Steam games (other launcher or pirated).
In this scenario, you're better off with Windows for the time being.

The behavior of normies can be directly tied to how easy it is to get usable celebrity b-roll of something and also convey to normies what that b-roll is supposed to represent in a way that is normalfag friendly.
How are you going to sponsor Linux celebrity b-roll for a distro that isn't genuinely awful to use on account of needing to conform to preconceptions formed by Windows and also needing to pay for that celebrity b-roll?
VR also can't work for the same reason.

Yes. Google's main goal is to force-feed you ads, but they noticed that people mainly used the first few search results. Thus, now you don't get what you want with your search, so you try the second page that has more ads to forcefeed you which repeats as you move over to the next page.

Google is one of the primary sources used for the term: enshittification.

>AYEEE LINUX IS SO BAD FOR USERS LOOK AT THIS IMAGE ABOUT PAJEETS
>AYEEEE MUH 5% OF GAMES WITH SHITTY ANTI CHEAT

A few quick balanced facts
Windows 10 isn't over yet. You've got another year if the situation with 11 is that bad for you. Windows 11 will also be forced to iron out bugs as more users switch to it. Like anything, they either sink or swim as the majority of 10 users that hadn't switched over floods the mark.
Linux is not as bad as shitposting shows. It is harder than any Windows install on average, but the necessary knowledge required is peanuts to pick up. If you've ever debugged anything on Windows you already have the common sense required to do it. Probably hold off if you've got Nvidia and think about switching to AMD given driver situation, though Nvidia drivers on Linux are getting better every day.
And finally, privacy IS a valid concern and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you're concerned, switch to Linux, but don't think Linux is a magic fix either. Prolly look into removing google and microsoft usage in general out of your day to day life as well.

Lutris can function as a workaround for anticheat where Proton can't but I'm not comfy with it and wouldn't call Lutris new user friendly. Star Citizen doesn't support Linux anymore but has documentation to get it running. Battlefield 6 however will not work because of the servers it phones home to- notably among the 3 is a new one in the form of a server in India it wants to interface with.

Setting a custom refresh rate for my monitor is trivial in Windows. My monitor is 165hz but it doesn't natively support 120hz. Setting a custom refresh rate in Wayland is a pain and I'm just too lazy to actually try.

Not quite. If you've never used a smartphone, iPhone and Android are equally alien. If you've never used a computer, Windows and Linux (and Mac) are equally alien. Any of them will require some EFFORT to learn how it works. But then, most people are not starting from a clean slate: they have already learned know how to use the most popular system, so learning an alternative is seen as additional effort.
