ive noticed that people who grew up when generational leaps in hardware came every 2 to 3 years are more often thqn not graphics whores. it doesn't matter what era of games we are talking, could be mocap or pixel art, millenial gamers will naturally gravitate towards games that had more effort and money put into their graphics and less on gameplay. i wonder if it was the fact that games and consoles were overwhelmingly sold and talked about by how modern they were and how the previous version of that game was obsolete.

I think what is actually going on is that historically a lot of people who would otherwise not be playing video games bought consoles, but now only the people with genuine interest in video games are continuing to play them while everyone else has other distractions.
