Its not just a video games thing, it comes from TV and film translations for the past century. Basically everyone except EN natives come from a culture of doing more or less direct translations of films made in hollywood, while US has a nearly century long history of cutting foreign films to pieces and gluing them back together while rewriting them for american audiences.

When they talked about translating back, they don't mean what you all think it means.

All of them are japanese and Koji is nowhere there, he's only credited as the lead localizer, you'd think, specially with how much of friend he is with the main devs, that they'd credited him on that too were it actually real.
What they did was writing the game in japanese, then localize it to english, and that localization was what was used for the facial mocap and lip sync.
Because of that, they had to re-adapt the japanese script to the english lip sync for the cutscenes, obviously.
That's what the process truly was and that's why there so much discrepancy between both versions and why the japanese makes more sense in some scenes too, because the screen writing was done with the content of the original japanese script in mind too.
How can you people be so retarded as to think that those nips, who probably know next to zero english are going to read Koji's localization of their own script and and then translate all the thing back to japanese?
