Hinako's underwear was originally going to be slimper, probably.

Yeah, fun fact. Hinako Shirai's underwear was going to be simpler, maybe, but it was changed during development, the concept art/official sketches give that idea, she's shown wearing simple white underwear but in the final product it looks different and much more detailed.

Compared to other characters like Rin there is a clear difference, even in concept art or official sketches, Rin is shown wearing beige underwear that isn't genuinely different from what she's wearing in the final product, so, just using Rin as reference (one could use other characters), Hinako may be one of the few Blue Reflection characters who was originally going to wear different underwear.

Anyway, like a Kei Narimiya thread from a while ago, this is just another ''fun fact'' thread regarding Blue Reflection. Of course, it's debatable if it would be better if Hinako wore simpler underwear or if the more detailed design is better and more fitting for her. In any case, there are two characters (Kei and Rika) who do wear plain underwear in the final product, the rest of the cast wear different colors that aren't white and/or different designs and patterns.

Before anyone asks, no, there aren't a lot of photos of that art book, for the most part if you want to see the art you'll have to get the official visual collection, Apparently there was an album on imgur, well...not anymore.

You know what they say, there is beauty in simplicity. In the end Kei and Rika are the only characters who wear something similar to the original design.

I'm convinced that Hinako was originally going to wear simple underwear considering what was already posted but this may just be a coincidence...the fact that Hinako ''says'' this in optional event...it's true that if she wore plain underwear this line would more sense, as it is, it's weird that she's surprised because those 3 girls wear ''such grown-up underwear'' when she also wears underwear that can be considered as such, but plain white underwear is another story and if that were the case, this dialogue would make more sense but again, it may be a coincidence.

If there is one, I don't that word. That said, Hinako isn't really a ''secretly stacked'' character, it's well known that she's busty (her breasts are described as above average in the game itself) and official art doesn't try to hid that fact, at least for the most part.

Her breasts often bounce in the first game, both Blue Reflection games have jiggle physics and the first one can be funny or ridiculous in that aspect.

I think it mostly just needed a serious balance overhaul. The combat mechanics have potential, but there's not much reason to engage with them when you can steamroll encounters with one or two attacks. I still enjoyed the game for what it was, though.

Hinako's panties are on the floor in this official art for some reason and...now that I think about it, their desing is almost the same as the concept art already posted...her panties in this image look almost the same compared to what should have been the original design. Huh.

I'm not sure what could be added in that regard that would integrate well with the rest of the game. It would be nice if the "hanging out with friends" segments had some more interactivity, though. I also wouldn't mind if there was more of an exploration aspect to the Commons, rather than just warping in, accomplishing an objective real quick, and warping back out.

Well, as already mentioned Kei and Rika wear plain underwear in the final game, what they wear really is similar to Hinako's underwear in the concept art, obviously, if it looks a bit boring maybe that's the point, then again, some people like that. Again, beauty in simplicity and all that.

Simple is fitting for Rika at least.

If you really like all those things, sure. It's not going to be the best JRPG you'll ever play but it's enjoyable to play and, more than anything else, it has an emotional story, amazing soundtrack and memorable characters. I like the fragments mechanic; it's a shame that it's kind of superfluous. It's a relatively unique way of customizing/empowering characters. I'm a little less fond of what they did with it in BR2, though I get why they couldn't just reuse the old system with the new battle mechanics and larger roster of playable characters.

Yeah, Fumio is one of the characters with small chests in the game. Like Hinako, the concept art gives the idea that her underwear was something simple originally, and in the end, she wears something more detailed. Her bra in the concept art clearly looks like a training bra, which reinforces what has been said before, in this case, the fact that Fumio appears to be wearing a training bra and may be the only character who wears one of those, her bra looks like a training bra, definitely, and in the concept art, it looks like one too and I'm sure it's one.

The hairstyle similar to Lime's is interesting, apparently she was going to have a similar hairstyle but maybe it was changed to better distinguish them.

I like the art for the sephirot, too. It's a shame BR2's bosses weren't nearly as memorable, since I thought the boss battles were one of the high points of the first game.

Yeah, same here. The Commons had such a surreal, dream-like aesthetic that really stuck with me, even more than some of the characters honestly. The way each zone reflected the girls' emotions felt really cohesive with the overall visual tone-almost like walking through someone's subconscious. I swear some of those earlier concepts had more abstract geometry too, wish they'd explored that angle more.
