context is key here. they updated the main branch of the game while simultaneously advertising the anniversary edition as a new version of the game which they are charging full price for.
nobody bought this, yet all players are affected by it. they are literally forcing an environment where paid mods are being shilled to everyone.
they very easily could have set up a legacy branch for the base game, and not pissed anyone off. steam has had that feature for a million years. but they did not do this.
