If the character designs were still good but black, no issues. There's been a fair amount of decent to good black characters in games that people like.
Even some that weren't females with huge racks.
The problem is forced race-substitution, "representation quotas", and characters whose "character" is their skin color and their pronouns. Make a good character, and 97% of gamers give zero shits if they're black, white, mexican, blue, a dog or a goat, or some swirling mass of fog.
