the game's length would be perfect if they cut the optional exploratory stuff between Saga's chapters. the game flows pretty well from story beat to story beat if you alternate characters per chapter

Not that annon, but only ever getting enemy pods of 2 or 3 taken till the final couple chapter's big holdouts did get a bit dull. I feel like ignoring the shadows on Alan's side and just agroing whole groups provided way more enjoyment than most of Saga's exploration.

I can agree with that, they could've done bigger groups like AW1 if they kept the flashlight the same, needing to spend a pip to unshield them makes managing larger groups kind of a pain because if you get mobbed and need to dodge or get hit before you get the full flashlight hit on the enemy, you're down a pip and need to spend another to unshield them. just pointing the flashlight and having the amped light be a bar instead of charge based worked much better in groups, made flares much more useful too.

>the spiral started decades before Alan Wake got there with Zane, potentially even earlier
>it doesn't even end with Alan, as Alice takes his place in the regular ending
I haven't played the DLC or finished The Final Draft so I'm unsure if these details change but it's interesting to say the least. I read a post theorizing that Alice interacts with the bending of the reality using the dark place via the jumpscares, they're all black and white and shot head on like the photos of scratch she'd take in the apartment, with her going in just as the game starts to allow Alan to escape after the first overlap. I imagine The Final Draft is the actual bottom of the spiral, but I'll see when I finish it I guess.
Anonymous No.725613563 [Report] >>725614049

true, the old gods call him Tom and even though Alan went in, Tom never got out, which could mean that Alan was the first ever artist to get caught in the dark place. But Zane does also seem to be a real artist, originally a Poet turned filmaker because dark place reality altering magic, as mentioned in Control. makes me think that Alan Wake might be known as a famous playwright in the real world if he tried to write Initiation as a stageplay as his most recent draft. Zane could've also been a pseudonym for Alan's attempted pivot into poetry then screenwriting(he has experience with night springs IIRC), or just a creation of Alan's to give the dark place a backstory as he was the first artist to fall in, and that backstory manifested in reality. But then why would Odin and Tor call him Tom if Zane was a creation of Wake's backstory for the lake? do the DLCs go further into this at all?

RE 4, RE 2 Remake and RE 4 Remake all have way better pacing than Alan Wake 2

Ummm... Night Springs?
Anonymous No.725616905 [Report]
>>725616565
RE4 and RE4make both are paced like action games because they're more B movie action horror than horror as a genre. Alan Wake is also schlock-y horror but expresses that via a few over the top sequences (We Sing, Dark Ocean Summoning) while it usually maintains a more tense and oppressive atmosphere, the darkness of the forest and the feelings of unrest that wandering a dark forest at night can invoke, and the dark and disorientating nature of the dark place for the "New York" levels. RE2make is better paced but that game also has less of a focus on narrative than Alan Wake 2 does, considering the whole deal with AW2 is the meta-narrative. This is why I think cutting the exploratory bits of the game between chapters would be to the benefit of the pacing, keep the story rolling instead of slamming the breaks to solve nursery rhymes.

This is why Alan's sections feel much more brisk, you basically hit all of NY just by playing his levels, where Saga's side asks you to backtrack through every level to go collectable hunting as the water recedes.

>>725616602
was Night Springs shot in bright falls? I figured it was just the name of Alan's twilight zone knock-off, I haven't played the DLCs so I imagine it's elaborated on from there

Ahti also calls him Tom.
The Clicker was allegedly a belonging of Alan's unknown absentee father, according to his story of the story his mom told him, but also it appears in Zane's shoebox he entrusted to Weaver. Potentially Alice had involvement in this as well, given that The Clicker was last known to be in her possession, and during 2 she arranges for Alan to retrieve it from another shoebox.

Alan Wake is the fictional lovechild of Thomas Zane and Casper Darling.

>Alan Wake is the fictional lovechild of Thomas Zane and Casper Darling.
interesting theory, both of them can't create the art that will let them escape, so they manifest an award winning author who can. But Alan quotes Zane in the final draft opening, calling him a "fictional Poet"
>A fictional poet once said: beyond the shadow you settle for, there is a miracle, illuminated. I will not settle for a shadow. I will find the miracle. Through the night. It’s not just victims and monsters. I see now there are heroes as well. We can find our way through the darkness. We will break through the surface. We will emerge into the light.
But I guess this could be Alan thinking he created Zane, when it reality it was the other way around. But then why would Zane stay trapped, and let Alan escape? Unless Alan is Zane, and he and Darling used the reality altering powers of the dark place to change Zane into a different person all together, one who was more equipped to write a horror story that will allow them to escape. But that would've required Alan/Zane to get out of the dark place, so he could fall back into it. But I guess that's a part of the story right, so it would be allowed?

It would've at least made more sense if they swapped it so you do that in the previous encounter in the parking lot where the equipment hadn't been properly setup yet, and then in the concert where they're supposed to be fully prepared with a trap to just need to pull an energy core lever.
