Wolf girl named Whisper. The comics introduced a FOXHOUND/Diamond Dogs analog called the Diamond Cutters:
Smithy the Lion, designed after Vulcan Raven.
Mimic the Octopus, designed after Decoy Octopus.
Slinger the Ocelot, designed after Revolver Ocelot.
Claire Voyance the Howler Monkey, designed after Psycho Mantis and Screaming Mantis.
And Whisper the Wolf, designed after Sniper Wolf.
However, Mimic betrayed the others and sided with Eggman, and the rest of the team were killed. Whisper was the sole survivor, since she was on overwatch duty at the time and was able to escape. She swore revenge on Mimic, and worked alone for years. Eventually she met Tangle the Lemur, and the two became friends. They founded the Neo Diamond Cutters together with a refugee-turned-resistance member Lanolin the Sheep and Silver the Hedgehog, and teamed up to track down and capture Mimic for good.
Eventually interpersonal drama happened and some shit went down and the Neo Diamond Cutters broke up. Whisper, Silver, and Tangle tracked down Mimic, and he committed suicide via IED rather than be captured, so Whisper is now free of her past. At least for now.
Since Whisper and Tangle are comic-original characters people assumed they wouldn't ever appear in the games, but Sonic referenced them in Frontiers and with Sega more closely tying the Sonic franchise together, and with Ian Flynn writing both, it was inevitable.
