I still managed to obtain almost every R, SR, and SSR for my idoru, Miya, within 2 years of playing FTP, and I downloaded MLTD 4 years after launch (2021). There's definitely still fun to be had with the game this late in, as sparse and spread out as that fun may be. The reason I advised against getting the game is that gachashit is always a massive waste of time. It just isn't worth engaging with the rudimentary rhythm gameplay to grind for gems just to see your idol dance in cute outfits. Nowadays, I just consume fanart on Xitter, occasionally view new official art at
https://imas.gamedbs.jp/mlth/ , and on very rare occasions, listen to some of the songs on YT.

All the im@s phone games are in Japanese and are only available on Japanese storefronts. I used my throwaway email to create an Apple ID under a Japanese address, then got the game off the JP app store. Pretty sure the process is easier for Android users, and there's the option to emulate the games on PC with Bluestacks.
This is all in relation to the mobile games, but if you really want to get into im@s, I'd recommend trying the console games. Download the English fan TL of The Idolm@ster One For All (PS3) and try to emulate it. If you want a more accessible, PC-native release, try The Idolm@ster Starlit Season. Give this video a watch if you're interested, although keep in mind that it's a bit dated (pre-Gakumas):
