This was a great game for finding random dorks to party with and have some good times, but around the end of Stormblood or maybe Shadowbringers I noticed the playerbase stopped really feeling connected. I don't know if this was a result of upgrades to duty finder, the party finder, the cross world travel, the cross DC travel, etc. Those things broke down the barriers between servers so we lost some culture and that feeling of family, what with the familiar faces and names you often would bump into. You shared the game with these people and even if you weren't in the same FC, you would find them in duties often enough that they would remember your face if you were pleasant enough. The interconnected servers of today may have eroded that.

Maybe it's simply that the playerbase changed when the WoWfugees came through, I don't know. All I know is something was lost along the way.

The game became far too instanced, everything was a loading screen so that pushed the dev team and players to be incredibly lazy, the overworld into being completely useless outside of MSQ and people would idle in the first three cities states as they were the only cities with easy access market boards, easy access to retainers, inns, glamour and the rest while queuing for their party finder.

It really annoyed me how Yoshida has been asked multiple times why they don't implement the ARR city features in each expansion city because all it's going to do is make people filter back to the original cities, there's literally no point in hanging around the new expansion city, and he said to implement the features that the ARR cities have into the new expansion cities it would caused some of his staff to quit because of the amount of work required.
What a dog shit answer and dogshit code base that they couldn't foresee this being an issue years ago and in over 10+ years they've done nothing to try and address this.

Exactly, when I played through the game Ishgard was completely dead, Shirogane was mostly dead but had some people using it because of Eureka. The Crystarium was completely dead to me, I barely saw a single other person which made it feel even more empty because of how massive it was, I really liked the Crystarium as well but it just felt empty, devoid of life.
Old Sharylan felt great when Endwalker was new and it was populated but as soon as Endwalker progressed people filtered back to the ARR cities and it felt lifeless. I still personally enjoy Old Sharlayan the most out of all the cities because it's not too big, the mb is right next to the aetheryte, the inn is close by, it's aesthetically pleasing as a city and the music is really comfy.
But I can't stand the Dawntrail city zones, far, far too big and the music is really bombastic I can't stand being there and to me I know most people won't care about this but the city is meant to be like a part beach part docks and the beach in front of the bar, you can't even swim in the water which is fucking ridiculous.

I tried making friends in a /xivg/ meetup and the first person I met turned out to be a diaper pedo
